    Wow.. that’s so true. When I was a kid our cat would bring gophers into the house for my mother. She thanked the cat (petted it) and put the gopher plastic bag to be thrown out once the cast was napping.

    Cats know people can’t/don’t hunt prey and they think we might starve if we don’t, so they offer us what they catch. Rather generous of them.

    We have a neighborhood stray which we feed; to show her appreciation she leaves us “gifts” (decapitated mice) outside the door, I told her I’d just as soon settle for a Hallmark card.

    Our cat brought in “treasures” even night through the cat door and placed them just inside the other door:

    Jack in the Box wrapper, seed packet, paper towel (total of 6)juice drink carton, child’s art project (stolen off a fridge?), baby birdmushrooms (2 at once), bandana, paper plate (couldn’t get it through the cat door), kitchen scrubbie, garden glove

    The grand finale, which made it all the way to our bed:

    A half-full pack of cigarrettes.
