^ Yeah, I believe the new guy’s backstory, just like I believed the old new guys’ backstories…
As it happens, I came in early to mention Nate Silver’s withering take down of the liberal revisionist history over Biden stepping out. He’s not kind to the Twitter intelligentsia’s canonization of Biden. Personally, i think it’s pretty dam saintly to step back for the good of the country. Nobody on earth had the power to force him to give up his power.
One of the things that helped Nixon to lose the ‘60 election was his refusal to wear make-up for the TV debates; his resulting appearance made him look like a crook with a 5 o’clock shadow. Sometimes art does imitate life.
The primitive nature of early TV equipment also meant that make-up colors used were different from those used normally. For example, lipstick color was brown-ish instead of red-ish, and make-up was applied to darken a person’s nostrils. These steps tended to make the one’s face appear more natural than otherwise on the small screen.
I’m not going to perpetuate the eyeliner meme without proof. I read a piece by a cosmetologist suggesting that Vance simply has very piercing blue eyes between naturally dark and lush eyelashes. He might have Distichiasis (double eyelashes), a somewhat-rare congenital condition (about 1 in 10,000 people) which is not without associated dangers but it can give you a natural “smoky eye” effect that other people pay lots of money to get.

A convicted felon with six bankruptcies, and in 2001, fined for filing false financial reports for Trump Hotel and Casino. Not to mention his “university” getting shut down for fraud in 2013, his “foundation” getting shut down for self-dealing (stealing from children’s cancer charities and veterans funds) in 2018, his casinos being fined $4 million for violating Atlantic City gambling laws in 1991, Trump Plaza getting fined $200K for labor violations in 1991, his $250,000 fines for violating NY state lobbying laws in 2000, his $200K lawsuit for violating tenants rights in 1985, his $750,000 anti trust judgment for his attempted takeover of Bally Manufacturing in 1986, and his 1973 and 1978 judgments for violations of the Fair Housing Act.
It’s worth looking at Vance’s pictures on Wikipedia. There is one from the Republican convention. And his Senate picture and some others, recents (5-6 years ago) and his Marine enlistment picture. I don’t see what Stantis is going on about. You have to consider that lighting conditions vary. When I was on a TV show back in the 60s, I was told to wear a light blue shirt, not a white shirt. The blue shirt would appear white on the TV screen. That may not be true now, with all the advances in displays and cameras and lighting.

Wow, Stantis noticed that Vance, or whatever his name is, wears makeup.
Next, he might even notice The Messiah wears a thick layer.
.
Weird.

The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on

Folks, it’s not make-up or smoke and mirrors. They’re telling us exactly what they’re up to. Believe them.

And physical fatigue does play a role too.
