Shouldn’t have told him. What are you going to use for the next pill?

Pills in my dog’s favorite cheese eventually made her refuse the cheese even without the pill. Pavlov’s cheese bit corollary.

I usually had good luck with peanut butter. Oh wait……did you mean for the dogs?

I’ve tried this with my cats. A cat will grab up the cheese and watch me congratulate myself on a successful sneak-medication. Later, I will find the pill in a corner on the floor. “Thanks for the cheese, sucker.”

Sherwood spaniel snarfed the cheese nugget (or meatball) and then spit the pill out on the floor in front of me.

What a coincidence, I Actually just gave my pup a pill wrapped in cheese, he just swallowed it whole , cheese and all. He’s a good pill taker.

I found the easiest way to get my dog(s) to take a pill was put the pill in a nice big raw meatball, usually mad a couple without and would toss them with the the pill one second, then the third one just meatball ….. worked good ….. :)

Mine always feigned eating the cheese, or meatball, pill and all. Then I’d find spit-up pills behind the couch.

If you have a dog that likes to claim dropped food the easiest thing is just drop the pill and say, “oops”, or whatever you usually say. Worked great with Gus and Attila. But now I teach the dogs not to do that. The Silky One always checks any food offered to her and she doesn’t like to take pills but I learned to hide it inside a slice of banana. If I do it just right it goes down before she finds it.
