I’m probably one of the few who will read this comic and say “I’d rather be eating indoors.” I don’t like the bugs that want to share my food while I’m eating it during any outdoor dining. I went to a very nice get-together yesterday and the bees buzzing around my plate were beyond distracting.
Ah, sweet memories of fishing with my grandpa and family in Weiss’s pond and having a picnic afterward with the fresh fish, scaled by us kids, filleted by the grown men, and deliciously batter fried by grandma, and fresh watermelon with lots of good seeds to spit and lots of flavor. Oh yes, and homemade icecream made in a churn cranked by us kids taking turns — maybe not all on the same day or even visit, but the years gone by blend the memories together.
I know this comic can’t be real because there are a million things for peek-a-boo to explore and get in trouble with at this outdoor picnic. She could be chasing dragon flies, swatting at minnows in the lake, or climbing the tree and then become too timid to come down…. and she is resting peacefully on a blanket?
I always wonder, at these family outings with MeeMaw, why Clem and his mother are never there? Clem is a fairly regular visitor, but you virtually never see him and his mother together with the Gumbos. As for Clem’s dad Doolittle (such an apt name!) he’s been in limbo for decades. (And for those who would point out that no one would want Clem there—he usually behaves himself when MeeMaw is present.)

Food tastes better when someone else does the cooking.

It is always fun and frolic when Meemaw is around. A family with ideal values and virtues.
