Back when I attended grade sch-gaol the stretch from Presidents day to the Spring break was about 17 months long. We did NOT have “teacher work days” or any of that namby-pamby stuff either!
At 180 days, the school year in the USA is one of the shorter school years in the world. And the culture that is almost anti-school during the summer, or even Thanksgiving or winter or spring, break doesn’t help. No wonder elementary, and some middle school teachers spend about 2 – 4 weeks each year reviewing the subject matter from the previous year.
I don’t remember any extra days off other than 2 days for Thanksgiving, Christmas was from the day Dec 24-Jan 2nd. No spring break but Good Friday and Easter Monday. We got out of school during the last week of May – but didn’t start school until the Tuesday after Labor Day – so 3 solid months off. This was in Michigan in the 50s and 60s – there were no Monday holidays and I really don’t remember if we got either Washington’s or Lincoln’s Birthday off – probably not. The kids here in Florida start in mid-August and end in first full week of June. Are those both the same amount of school days – I have no idea.

Wait till you have a job and at best, get two weeks off. Unless you live in Norway, but you don’t.

All this time I thought Frazz understood kids.

I thought I heard that in China or Japan that they don’t have a summer break at all. Or I could have misheard this.

Everbody complains about how short breaks are. Forgetting, I guess, the two days in seven they have off every week.

A kid wants to complain, he/she will find something. They become adults with the same trait, but are a much larger pain in the . . . end.

When I was a kid, summer break lasted what seemed like a year.

Yes, I’m a happy person by nature, but I don’t let little things stand in the way of a good, satisfying whine.

I think Caulfield is affecting the other students.
