    In this case I know what they mean. I had one car where the part that controls the anti-lock function on one wheel failed. The dealer said they had to replace the entire wheel assembly because it wasn’t designed to be able to replace the one small part that failed.

    Wait, what? You mean you really have to do regular maintenance on a vehicle AND you should read the owners manual. I thought those were just old wives tales.

    yup… had a teeny tiny wire break on the sliding door opener. Had to replace the whole unit… $1500. (For the life of me I don’t know why I didn’t just solder it)

    Use to be you could just go in for an oil change and the bill would be $25-$30. Nowadays while they are topping off your liquids or rotating your tires during that oil change they just happen to discover a leak, worn brake pads, damaged brake line, bad tie rod end…. etc and $1000-$2000 later!
