For Better or For Worse by Lynn Johnston for December 24, 2007

Deanna: April, we have so many people here tonight, I was hoping you wouldn't mind sitting here at the kitchen table with the children. April: Umm. Deanna: I know you're not a kid! It's not a put-down. We just need a responsible person to supervise the little ones during dinner. April: Sigh. Deanna: You'll be away from the adults and the adult conversation, I'm afraid. Do you mind? April: I guess not. Voices: Yack yack yack gabble yap yack gabble, yap, yak, gab. April: Bonus!

Sorry. But you don’t ask an almost-17 year old to sit at the small kids’ table.

It would be better to ask two adults to sit with the children – they would at least have someone to talk to.
