And, having been raised mostly in Canada (Alberta)…with Canuck tax-returns, you’re done federal and provincial as one integrated migraine; in US, usually (some exceptions such as WA, TX, FL, TN) two separate migraines.
What annoys me, is that companies have 2 full months to send out T4 (work forms) when they only really need one. If they are a massive 10,000+ business, I can understand till Feb 28/9 but it irks me, that I’m ready to file, but can’t because ONE stupid company refuses to send their T4’s till Feb 27th.
Actually, the bigger companies have a much easier task than the smaller companies do, as they generally do all that stuff in-house. Small companies have to send their records to whoever it is that’s doing the payroll, who may or may not be quick. My company is so small they have one accountant who’s doing the whole thing, and he’s overwhelmed right now, so I don’t get my 1099 for a while. A pain, but it’s all a pain, anyway.
DrToon – A better idea would be to close loopholes and enforce the laws we have. There are billions of dollars there to collect. If it all went to sales tax, then the Cayman Islands would start selling stuff tax free and we’d lose the money that way instead.
The sales tax is regressive. People with low income have to spend almost all of it for necessities and thus are paying a higher portion of their income than the rich do. Does that sound fair?

I don’t know what the procedure is in Canada, but in the U.S., one could file an amended return.

Well, if your income is low enough, you don’t have to pay anything - except the sales tax here in WA.

If you (both) kept everything in the same drawer, there wouldn’t be another drawer to find. Who is at fault here, John?

For doctortoon, that idea is extremely sensible–exactly why it will never be implemented by government!
