Always wondered about that. I just think it depends on what part of the country you’re from!!!

“What about second breakfast?”

In the American South, the midday meal was “dinner” if it was indoors, and “lunch” if it was outdoors (like a picnic). The evening meal was always “supper”.

You can call me anything just don’t call me late for dinner/supper!

Supper was common & simple. Sunday or Holiday dinner usually had more dishes, bigger meat & you dressed up nice.

She forgot brunch. And yes she can.

In my family growing up at our home on the farm, dinner was the noon meal and supper was the evening meal (usually around 5 or 6 o’clock). Lunch was a small meal (usually a sandwich and something to drink like coffee or tea) my dad would have (sometimes taken to him out in the field when he was working out in the field) mid-morning or mid-afternoon.

In the Navy, the word is passed at 1100 for “Dinner for the crew”. In the evening, it’s “Supper for the crew”.

I had the same question the other day. And could not come up with how they name the supper/ dinner part in UK. Was it Supper???

The way I learned it, “dinner” was the biggest meal of the day.

If that came in the middle of the day, then the evening meal was “supper”, but if the bigger meal was in the evening, then it was “dinner” and the midday meal was “lunch”.

Saying “supper” for “dinner” is considered a sign of a lower-class origin—-at least by those snobs who claim to be upper class.

Supper is the evening meal. Dinner is the big meal of the day, whenever it is. Now, it’s almost always in the evening, but it used to be more commonly at midday.

Brunch

Not even a question that Broomie could do that!

Broomie has only one meal and that is 24/7 long. Oh no, I feel a ZAP coming my way.

So, Broomie’s a Hobbit. Cool!

No matter what you call it it’s still just a meal.

I have stopped eating between meals. Breakfast, second breakfast, brunch, elevenses, lunch, tea, dinner, and supper only – no snacks!
