Several common birds of the Hirundinidae family build their nests of mud including cliff swallows, barn swallows, house martins and purple martins. Some use wet mud and some secrete a saliva-like substance to wet it.
Chris Farley was hired for Shrek originally and had most of his lines done when he passed away. They thought of hiring a sound-a-like to finish it, but decided to go in another direction, which was likely a good choice.

Good to know that the birds aren’t trying to build their nests with dry mud.

Saying “wet mud” is redundant. Mud, by definition is wet.
