We bought our mattress (and bed and such) when we got married – around 45 years ago. Due to careful and periodic flipping over and turning around the mattress over the decades (despite needing to deal with light fixture hanging from ceiling over bed and other things in the way) we are still sleeping on the same mattress with no problems with it.

Actually, a good memory foam mattress should give you that “sinking feeling” for a minute or two, as it adjusts to your body.
