Heart: Yes! Saturday! woo hoo! Mom: Amazing how you never had this kind of early morning energy during summer vacation. Heart: School gives me a new appreciation for downtime, mom!
I missed that too. Back in the 70’s and early 80’s, we always look forward to seeing the Saturday morning preview shows (both animated and live-action) on NBC, CBS, and ABC (airing in primetime on Fridays, the eve of the new Saturday morning line-up).
But when Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Nick/Nicktoons Network, and the now defunct Toon Disney came along,
the networks ended up showing E/I programs (i.e. baby shows).
That because I believe at that time, the networks had live coverage of the mermorial service of JFK. They did too
for his brother RFK (1968) and just recently, Ted Kennedy (2009).
Also during the TV seasons of 1963-1964 & 1976-1977, NBC-TV had moslty live-action kid’s programming. And in 1992-2004, teen programming. Their biggest hit was “Saved By The Bell”.
My mom told me when she was a young teenager, there
used to be two saturday morning live action shows that ran on NBC about undersea adventures! Gosh, did I miss those! I was born in 1981!
If Heart related to Calvin, Constantinepaleologos, then maybe they’re cousins through their mothers; Max is the unmarried/childless brother of Calvin’s father.
I remember the Saturday morning cartoons and the commercials. We loved the toy commercials around Xmas. Other times of the year it was cereal and treats they advertised.
The ‘toons were, Bugs Bunny and his pals, Popeye, Tome and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Little Lulu and Tubby, Little Audrey, etc.
It was wonderful!!
@LEWREADER: I remember that too! My sister and I turned on the TV to see a lady in a black dress and hat on the White House steps and all we thought was “WHERE’S BUGS BUNNY?”
In my days they had great cartoons, like Samurai Pizza Cats, Three Little Ghosts, Candy Candy, Macron 1 and Inspector Gadget to name a few.
What do children see now ?

Back in 63 I was too young to comprehend why they took off all the cartoons one Sat to show a lot of overdressed grown-ups crying..
