Did anyone ever leave a pie on a window sill to cool? (Except in cartoons and comics, of course. In comics and cartoons pies were only able to cool on window sills – with the results shown here.) Now in the days before AC, and the days of wood burning stoves the kitchen got hot, real hot. But a pie on the window sill? I suspect this is a trope of fiction.
Lemon meringue was my late father’s favorite. My mother made him one every Thanksgiving, as that was near his birthday, and some years WAS his birthday.
when we had two dogs, my wife had baked a large cherry cheesecake, and left it on the kitchen table. When we came home, the baking pan was on the floor, and the pups had even licked it clean… I’m surprised they survived!… (thank goodness it was chocolate free!)

Not better. Just easier.

Yeah, lots of people think that way. Too many, in fact.
Repeatedly.

You’d think Mother Goose would have learned not to put anything edible where Grimm can nab it.
