Large ones are about $4-$5 in upper Illinois. I got one at the end of Sept & put it upon a tall planter, the flowers having expired, despite all my care. TWO days later, there was a rather squirrel-shaped hole in it.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Pumpkins at Trader Joe’s were reasonable, about $5.00 each. The other stores, including the so-called “discount stores” were more expensive and don’t even get me started on the major brand locations!
Anyway, if you have a Trader Joe’s near you, they have the nicest employees. One of woman spent some time helping me select a perfect pumpkin to put on my porch to celebrate autumn. I won’t carve it – I don’t do Halloween because the few years the “children” were basically teenager boys not in costume basically demanding candy or else. So, all lights off. (I’m getting too old for all of this; sorry.)

Ceramic ones for the last 10 years – well worth the cost…

Here in New Brunswick, Canada, I paid $12.00 for two 20 lb pumpkins.

A $10 pumpkin would be OK.
