That’s John—always thinking of the bottom line. BTW, How the Duck keeps insisting that the Patterson’s are “rich”—surely they could afford the rent on that dump!
After one year in Perth Hall at Western University (where Mike is), my daughter did just this and bailed out to a house with an apartment in their basement and lived there for the next three years before graduating in 2023. The scary thing is as loud as she found Perth to be, Saugeen-Maitland Hall was supposed to be FAR worse! I’m guessing that is where Mike and Weed lived!
I read this strip off and on for several years before this, but didn’t get into it full time until Mike was in college with Weed. (Weed the person ;-)) It was interesting to read from the beginning and it will be fun to remember what comes next. Anyone know the original date of today’s strip?

Actually, John, college room and board cost more than an apartment off campus where students share rent. Be blessed that you’re gonna save money.

Whoops, did Michael forget to tell his mother about his new housemates? ( speaking of distractions ;-) )

More importantly, who is paying for it?

There’s no problem with studying in a more conducive atmosphere — at the right price.

People ALWAYS do things freely when someone else is paying.

At least first and last months of rent+the application fee

One month’s rent in that dump is probably less than John makes in one day as a dentist.

They don’t know about the two girls sharing the kitchen. I don’t know if Mike will get THAT much more reading and writing done!

Wouldn’t whoever takes over their room at the dorm have to “make good” on some of the expenses?
