They don’t? Jack In The Box is currently running an ad slamming McDonald’s by name. Okay, McDonald’s is being “slammed” for not having tacos, but still…
The Chamber of Commerce sort-of did what the comic suggests, before Christmas a few years ago. They ran an ad containing a guy shaming and scolding people for not spending enough on presents… that ad only ran a couple of times before it was yanked, and then we got some new people on our Chamber of Commerce.
Both sides run negative campaigns, and then we are surprised that everyone is displeased with electoral process, and hates politicians. If they actually focused on what they intended to do instead of trying to scare people into voting for ’em, there might be some sense to it.
It actually makes sense that politicians are allowed to lie when seeking office because otherwise incumbents could declare things lies when they really aren’t and there’s not enough time to sort it out before the election. Voters would determine the truth. In olden days LOOOONG AGO, politicians caught in a lie would not be elected or even drop out in shame.
I honestly think it is transgendered hate that won this election! It is at least what put it over the top in a lot of key areas. Moderates, and even some liberals, are downright afraid of the very idea of a trans person. That offensive ad was run forever, revised multiple times, and preyed on the hatred and fear. It was profoundly misleading. Most trans folks do not want to be they/them and even that plays into people’s hatred of the pronoun movement.
And, on top of that, it is Trump’s mess that we were feeling economically very recently, that goes way beyond the grossly mishandled pandemic.

Should have been “competitor’s,” not “opponent’s.”

There was a foreign movie called “Branded” that used this as the story line. Well done Tim. R.

I abandoned Burger King™ after a young Sarah Michelle Gellar dissed McDonalds™ on an ad, before that either would work for me.

Showing my age, but back in the 90’s, it was cool to be mean to your own brand and customers.
Then everything got sanitized.
