Oh Calvin why didn’t you ask your dad to help you with the model. With that said I want to apologize to everyone for bringing the mood down yesterday. I have a comic exercise I would like to try with you all. Even you wolf bashers can participate if you wish. So here goes… O.k. let’s say that we live in a comic strip universe. Now what I want to know is given any comic strip that you like what comic strip character would you be.
My brothers and I built hundreds of these things when we were kids (before plastic got expensive). I’ll bet our first half-dozen (all without adult supervision) were just like Calvin’s. Ah, the memories!
Normally, I would find today’s comic funny, but not after recent events. My heart goes out to those who lost family and friends on the Air France flight.
Ladywolf: I would like to either be Alice from Cul de Sac or if that is taken–I would like to be Sophie from Dog eat Doug. They both lead interesting lives in their own innocent ways.
Looks like you better give it up guys, it’s not going to work.
I don’t know who I’d be. I find myself feeling sorry for most comic strip characters. Maybe that’s why I enjoy reading them, I can sympathize with them.
I’m with Carmy and Akenta: If these were current strips I don’t think Bill W. would have done this type strip so soon.
Prayers to all involved in the air disaster.
Hey Calvin! I surely hope you will not ruin everything what you try your best to assemble the model airplane. If you broke the smallest parts, you will destroy everything for your favorite model airplane.
Ladywolf17: I think I love the comic strip of For Better or For Worse because it looks like a real life and I love to laugh after I read the comic strips of FBFW many years. And Pickles, too! :-)
Akenta: Yeah, I saw the news on the TV about Air France plane plunged into the Altantic Ocean. Pray and condole for the loss of loved ones. It is horrible tragedy!
Think of all the engineering and problem solving skills that children used to learn from building models. Now think about how little they learn from pressing YELLOW-RED-BLUE-RED-RED-YELLOW-GREEN on Guitar Hero or some other mind-numbing video game.
No need to wonder why GM is bankrupt and Chrysler has been sold to the Italians. We’ve trained our children how to avoid learning in favor of just mezmerizing them with flashing lights and sounds.
What we need now is a video game that teaches them Hindi or Chinese so that they can understand basic instructions from their future bosses.
My brother used to make lots of models. I think he still does (he was a pilot). My job was to break them for him, then tryy to glue them back together.
Calvin won’t have to resort to what I used to do when I got tired of one of my old models. I used to load the model with firecrackers connected to a main fuse. If the firecrackers did not do the job, a few squirts of lighter fluid always did the trick. Calvin’s plane will be a wreck before it is completed.
You know, come to think about it, I don’t have any of the model cars I put together as a kid. ?????
Luann - she’s a nice person, enjoys life, level-headed, responsible.
Snoopy - he really enjoys life, and he doesn’t have the limitations that humans have. His life is very creative!
Miss Ma’mzelle Hepzibah, the French lady skunk (from Pogo) - she may be a skunk, but she’s the most beautiful skunk you ever saw! and she has this absolutely charming French accent!
EMET, that would be Larry. (Who can forget “Larry Boy - With Suction Cup Power Ears”)? My favorite song of his is “Where in My Hairbrush” followed closely by “The Water Buffalo Song”.
Other than agreeing with doctortoon about Brad in Luann having a hot girlfriend, got to wonder about so much of you being familiar with what seem to be obscure characters to me (not including Charlie Brown and other widely familiar examples, of course). Guess I could redirect leisure time to becoming more familiar with comics again, but I see other uses for it.
So glad to see your mention of Harold Head. I have a tabloid-sized magazine of his adventures in Vancouver, BC and surrounding areas from back in the ’70s. Very funny.
i feel i resemble more to schroeder(peanuts) and garfield or beetle bailey(im lazy sleepy and hungry..feed me!) but i would love to be someone like sophie ffrom dog eat doug.lio is another one(i have just started reading that)

I would like to take this time to apologize to the GoComics staff of Uclick and to each and everyone of you for what transpired a few days ago. Rest assured that for now on any family personal problems will no longer be posted. ladywolf17 and I look to redeem ourselves and hope to regain your trust back so that we can make friends, read, and discuss comics like it was meant to. We humbly beg for forgiveness and hope to be accepted back into your fold. sincerely yours–The wolf family wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17.
dudeabideshou - I don’t know if you are from Vancouver, BC or not, but back during the early 70’s I was sitting in the Anchor pub in Gastown with my roommate. There was a guy sitting alone at a table, that looked exactly like Harold Head. We couldn’t bring ourselves to go up and ask if he was the cartoonist and I have regretted it ever since. LONG LIVE HAROLD HEAD.
@ Akenta My thought exactly. Of course, no one could have predicted that a plane would disintegrate over the ocean the same day as this storyline. May they rest in peace.
I will gladly forgive both of you if you stay on topic. I would especially like to see Ladywolf17 stop trying to hijack this forum.
This little forum is a place to discuss the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. It is not here for detailing your personal adventures nor is it appropriate to attempt to start discussions that do not pertain to Calvin and Hobbes.
geo111 On the contrary, this is a public forum and anything and everything is grist for discussion - even politics and religion if it were possible to not degenerate into flame warfare (but unfortunately, it isn’t possible).
It is sad that too many people want to take the humanity out of everything. It is a major cause of the animosity and separation that is so prevalent in this world. It is too easy to denigrate or wish harm to a faceless entity but reason prevails much more often among acquaintances. Geo111, do you also take issue with the posters expressing sympathy and condolences for the families of flight 447? By your reasoning that has nothing to do with this strip.
wolfbyte36 and ladywolf17: Do not be intimidated by one or two narrow-minded voices. You will find that the vast majority of us welcome your sharing personal events and fully support you in their resolution.

probably way too late to get in on the comic character thing, but i couldn’t see the comments for a couple of days. i’d pick the lead character of an old strip i haven’t seen in years, but have at least one paperback collection of (somewhere in my large collection of books). to wit, Captain Vincible.
