I read somewhere long ago, that you should sleep with your feet pointed to the east so that you will be spinning with the earth feet first. Then you sleep better and are generally better off. Second choice was head first; sideways is bad. I think that was how it went. It was a long time ago.
“But the fool on the hill Sees the sun going down And the eyes in his head See the world spinning ’round” — I see The Fool on the Hill was a 1967 Beetles song by Paul McCartney, but the version I always remember was by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66 in 1968.
As a tyke, I would imagine the same thing about the spinning Earth. As a 73 y/o, I still look up at night and imagine I can see the plane of the ecliptic in the night sky while the Earth spins to the East…
I used to do that a lot as child too! The key was feeling the pressure of your body on the ground over your entire back surface. Strange that the feeling of solid, motionless connection was also what enabled the feeling of the motion. Don’t recall ever pretending to be a starfish though.
The solar system (including the Earth) is circling the center of the galaxy at about half a million miles per hour, eight hundred thousand kilometers per hour.
For some reason “Windmills of Your Mind” comes to mind when I read this. Dusty Springfield, José Feliciano, Noel Harrison, all great versions of a great song!

So sometimes Wallace imagines he’s among the stars and sometimes he imagines he’s a starfish.

In second panel, love how Seagull is reacting to the Earth spinning and speeding through the galaxy.

This is my Earth, and I live in it.
It’s one third dirt and two thirds water
And it rotates and revolves through space, at rather an impressive rate, and never even messes up my hair.
And here’s the really weird thing
The force created by its spin
Is the force that stops the chaos flooding in
