“The Catholic Church has opened the cause for Day’s possible canonization, which was accepted by the Holy See for investigation. For that reason, the Church refers to her with the title of Servant of God.” [Wikipedia]
This semester, I’m taking a graduate theology course in 20th-century holiness. By coincidence, today and next week we’re studying Dorothy Day. Materials include her books, The Long Loneliness and From Union Square to Rome, as well as a biography All Is Grace.

Darkness begets ignorance. Ignorance begets fear. Fear begets hate. Hate begets violence. Violence extinguishes the light.
Feel free to jump in and break the cycle at any point with yourself and those around you.

Teach me, my God and King,
In all things thee to see,
And what I do in any thing,
To do it as for thee:
…
A servant with this clause
Makes drudgerie divine:
Who sweeps a room, as for thy laws,
Makes that and th’ action fine.
