I used to take the parsley home and feed it to the gerbil.

I used to live in a relatively new development on the northeast side of Madison, WI (40 years ago). I did not realize the developer had scraped off all the topsoil before building the houses. That fact became evident when the only thing that grew in the soil, other than grass, was scallions and parsley. Not much of a garden.

Parents who lived thru the Great Depression, taught me to clean my plate. One of the reasons I’m 30 lbs. overweight.

Don’t some restaurants actually do that? (Maybe that’s just an urban myth.)

I plant some every spring for the Black Swallowtail butterflies. The female lays her eggs on it and the caterpillars eat it. I plant dill for them, too.

After the second and third round, Broomy, your parsley idea will be limp and lifeless!

I think I might start eating the parsley at restaurants. Back when kale was a garnish, my granddaughter asked a waitress if she could eat it. She got the reply “It’s just for looks” She asked again "But can I eat it. She was told she could. She took a bite and spit it out. “Yuk” was the verdict.

I never knew you weren’t supposed to eat it, so you’re getting any of my parsley.
