My father, God rest his soul, had the habit of recommending certain horses to his friends…and then betting on a different horse himself.
I’ll let you guess which horse came up the winner.
I went to the dog races with a friend once. He had a “system” for choosing which dog to bet on for each race. (I myself never bet at all)
He didn’t pick a winner all night.
