A college friend told me once she had front-row seats to an old Georgia Championship Wrestling card one night and actually heard one of the wrestlers ask the other “Ok, what do we do now?” (She met Larry Zybysko that night….a very nice guy who told her he liked being the heel because if he lost the fans were happy, but if he won,. he was happy…and he could do anything he wanted knowing the fans would usually be happy)
I was at an NWA card in 1989…the Iron Sheik was wrestling some guy i dont recall off-hand, but at one stretch of the match, he was reaching into his tights for a weapon…the fans started to yell at the ref to look, but i yelled at the top of my lungs “JOCK ITCH”. The Sheik stopped and stared at me like “What in the hell….?”
Great stories PlaidWolf! :D My uncle was a “professional” wrestler in PR for many years - we have old movies of the “masked avenger” wrestling! All scripted but hysterical stuff!
I’m from the old school! Started watching wrestling on Wednesday nights on channel 5 from the Olympic Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles. It was always over at 10 PM, no matter who was winning or loosing. Then went to cable and opened a new world for me of wrestling from many places and many channels and many nights. On one Sunday, within a 24 hour period, watched a total of 12 hours of wrestling from many places and many channels.
And then one day recently, it HIT me! John Cena acting like a fool for Nexas! Really!! I thought that I no longer needed to get emotionally involved as I had been doing for that past large amount of years, knowing how “fake” it was, and expecially fake from the McMahon (or McMaggot, as Road Warrior Hawk called him) clan. Shut it all off, quit whatever channel and time and day it came on, no longer posted on any of the wrestling forums. and it general…….
Other than that, Mr Sonof TheBeach, do you have any deep seated thoughts on show business restling?
It’s like watching CSPAN. The members of congress get all riled up and tear up the opposition, in a civilized use of vocabulary, while they are on camera. If the camera pulls back, you only see 3 or 4 others in the room. It’s all a fake!
They even get to put in hundreds of pages of additional info into the record, at some later time. What a HOAX!

Want to see really great and true wrestling? Attend a college meet sometime and be thoroughly entertained by those young people.

We used to live 10 miles from Gorgeous George. He had a turkey ranch and he dyed the white turkeys purple. Remember Mr. Moto?
