Please explain what is so hateful about a desire for smaller, effective, constitutional government and a return to personal responsibility by those capable of exercising it.
Showing you completely missed the point of the cartoon. Everybody thought liberals were extinct back in the 80s. Obviously they weren’t. You can indulge in “extinct conservatives” mental masturbation all you want, but here’s a news flash: conservatives aren’t going away, any more than liberals did.
True Hippies are an endangered species these days, many mutated from Hippies into Yuppies, then Dinks and eventually when they reached a certain age after they cocooned themselves in a financial chrysalis from the outside world and emerged as Conservatives. The Hippie in the ecosystem today have placed by a more culturally harmful species, the Hipster, which are devoid of any political or cultural values and are simply driven by powerful instinctual urge to seek another can of Pabst Blue Ribbon .
Are you truly so narrow-minded that you equate common sense only with conservatism? I almost feel sorry for people as blind as you and I do feel sorry for us all that such closed thinking, from either side of the political spectrum, is still so common.
I remember the 1984 election, in which Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states. Everyone I knew, except for two people, were voting for him and couldn’t understand why I didn’t like him … and this was in Massachusetts. I really thought liberalism was dead. But it has come roaring back and is definitely the wave of the future. Ask John Boner.
It just seems to me that liberals have more respect for science and facts than conservatives do. Conservatives tend to deny the truth of climate-change, basic biology, astronomy, physics, many other sciences. They do accept conservative opinion that has no basis in fact. This doesn’t necessarily make them hateful, just a little weird and sad.
blather046047: Conservatives claim they are for smaller, effective government, but that is not what they do. The last 3 “conservative” presidents increased government size, cut taxes and borrowed the difference. That isn’t fiscally conservative.
Well if things keep going they way they have been for just a little longer, I can see the situation described in this strip becoming reality. We’ll sell liberal hunting licenses (a license to hunt liberals) to raise money to pay back the national debt. Works for me.
So says the guy who thinks Ken Ham is the fount of all scientific knowledge. Where do live, doc? I’ll send you an irony meter for the winter solstice holiday of your choice.
I miss Feiffer. Also, don’t know where all those threatening “liberals” are — I sure think the country has moved drastically to the right since I was young.
Actually, having left a fundamentalist church, I know literally hundreds of people who fit the description I gave; I know one thoughtful conservative who fits your idea of what a conservative “really” is (time to look up the No True Scotsman fallacy). By the way, I notice that Atma posted something very similar to what I did—does he/she also not know any “true” conservatives?Besides, it would be trivially easy to name names of those (some of whom got voted out in the last election) who actually do fit the descriptions given by Atma and me.

The producers of this strip would like you to know that “no liberals were harmed” during the making of this cartoon.

didn’t the conservatives made the world a more dangerous place?

I don’t worry about the labels myself and go with what seems best.
I suppose someone has or will invent a label for that too – us humans seems comfortable with labels.

Reminded me of an answer I gave on a Chem Exam. The prof asked… “What is a Free radical?”I replied, “Jerry Rubin or Abby Hoffman.”
