    Good morning Tribe (((((((TRIBE))))))

End of a cold, cold spell, it’s not freezing today. 11 days of far below normal temperatures. I’m glad it’s warming up. My electric bill this month is $145. Shoot, in the summer it’s maybe $150-160.

I’m officially in Exports now. It’s easier switching this time, I already know how to do the job, it’s just a matter of catching up on the changes over the last 5 months. This time I am actually in the same cubicle with my teammate, which will make things easier.

Gotta lot of stuff I need to do. Heading over to the dragon early so I can pump out earrings to take to the craft store tomorrow. Meanwhile, enjoy some Krispy Kreams.

Doc - While being addicted to comics is better for you than many other addictions, I’m glad you are realizing it is time for a different phase of life. My mother used to say “This too shall pass” and I was middle-aged before I understood it thoroughly. Whatever is currently happening will never last - whether it is something good you WANT to last, or something you’d prefer was already over. Enjoy the present, plan for the future, remember the past. Once I understood that I couldn’t get all the various areas of my life just the way I wanted them, or keep any of them that way, it became easier for me to be content with my life. Not that we shouldn’t have goals, and work towards them, but rather that unrealistic expectations can lead to frustration and even depression. I’ve been able to enjoy my sons at each stage of their development, but also rejoice when they reach a new stage. I can smile when I see pictures of their younger years (or young kids who remind me of those years), remembering and yet not pining for those years that are gone. (They also appreciate that I don’t treat them like babies!) I’m sure you’ll be able to fill the time you spent on your archive with other activities just as (or more) enjoyable. With cleaning out my mother’s possesions, I’m reminded of the past frequently, but am so glad she embraced each new day the best she could, and didn’t “live in the past”. My parents’ days are past, and whether I like it or not, a new phase of my life is beginning. So, I might as well find the good in this new phase, and live life without regrets. May you find this new phase of your life rewarding and fulfilling.

Rmom–Ref homeschooling and punishment. I understand your thinking that the teacher/mom should not be punished too. But given the fact that the child did not ask to be brought into this world I take it as my responsibility to also handle the consequences of punishing my children. If I need to give something up to instill the correct values in my children then so be it. Just my feelings, not everybody elses. :^)

Good afternoon, Terry! My thought is that a good parent sacrifices a lot for their child, and discipling them is (in the short run) more work than not, so in doing effective discipline, there will be some labor on the parent’s part. What type of discipline is effective will probably be different for each child and each situation. It was probably more work to show my son how to do my housework, and supervise him while he was doing it, than it would be to have done the work myself. However, he got the message that if he made more work for me, he would have to reduce my workload somewhere else to make up for it, which gave him the necesary incentive to make better choices in the future. This strategy falls in the category of having him make restitution for stealing (time) from me. It is difficult to have a homeschool student stay “at school” longer than it takes for him to complete the school work, and therefore the discipline has to be different than it would be under the other educational styles.

hello to Lonewolf, jdoc, DocT, serena, Quaby, Rmom, Dry, cleo and any i’ve missed. DocT despite the well intentioned (and possibly non-serious) notes from some of us about “going for another 100,000” strips, you are undoubtedly best off making the clean break from the archive that you seem intent on making. Rmom said it very well, above, and i agree. recognizing that a change is needed isn’t always easy, nor is making that change always easy to do, but when you decide on something - do it - and don’t worry about might have beens. you will continue to grow as a person as new doors open for you. you will know what’s best for you.

in my refereeing career, there was always a sense of anticipation until halfway through my last season. i never stopped having fun on the ice, but the idea of “it’s Saturday and i get to go referee today” had started to become “it’s Saturday and i have to go referee today.” i’d get to the rink, put on the skates, and the enthusiasm would be there again, but in between those times - not so much. it didn’t help that i was starting to feel like it was cutting into family time, either. that feeling you have of a weight being lifted is a sure sign that the decision is the correct one.

Back to the playoff! They keep this up with 2 quarters left, and the Packers/Cardinal game from last week will lose their recognition of being the highest scoring game in a playoff!

JFri, funny you should say that you wanted what I was smoking. I just got in a box of Felipe Gregorio 1957 Coloniales, a 90+ rated cigar that is 4.5x46, so it is a short cigar perfect for this time of the year, because it take no time to smoke it. I just came in about 15 minutes ago after smoking one and sipping some wine. It was gorgeous here today, not a cloud in the sky.

Dry - I don’t have to worry about cursing in my posts, since I don’t in real life. I gave that up 25+ years ago, and with my kids around 24/7, I’d be caught in an instant if I slipped. I was just thinking of someone who thankfully doesn’t post at BT, but is known for his long-winded and TMI posts, and I didn’t want to have the same affect he has on others.

I got 2 sets of earrings done and got trounced at Scrabble. But my score has been getting consistently higher. One day I will beat her, but until then I’ll have fun.

Got to go finish up the earrings, I take them in tomorrow. Take care and play nice!!!

rmom, I know who you are referring to. I thought you were worried about posting too long of a post and getting flagged because of it. . Anyone to my understanding can post as long a post as they want as long it’s not offensive or mean. And most of the time the person to whom you are referring has some good, accurate info. I don’t usually mind that person, but I guess he really bothers some other people. Don’t know why. If people don’t like that person’s posts, they don’t need to read them.

Dry - Let’s just say that I disagree with his interpretation of the Bible some of the time, his politics all of the time, and I really don’t want to hear about details of his “love life”. But I don’t remember flagging him, however, I am pretty sure others have done it. He irritates me, but I try to overlook that and move on. I figure I probably irritate others from time to time, and so I don’t want to be “the pot calling the kettle black.” Part of the reason he irritates others is because of his frequent long posts, so I try to not get in the habit of doing the same. There is more than one way to irritate others.

rmom, yes that’s true. Just go to SOTU!. Haven’t been there in awhile to read the posts, but it used to be like that. But I try not to let others bother me. If I don’t like what someone says, I’ve generally learned to pass it by, usually, unless a friend of mine is being attacked. And everyone has thier own views on religion and politics so it’s best not to travel that road, unless you really have to.

Dry - I’ve checked out SOTU a few times, but I’ve decided that it is too argumentative for me. I’m quite capable of being argumentative, but I try to pick my battles carefully. I doubt anyone reading posts at SOTU changes their views because of what they read there.
