Just a quick Hi! and Bye again. I’ve got to go work at my mom’s house today - all of my siblings are there, and if I’m not, either they won’t work, or they won’t do what I need them to do. It is rough being the baby of the family AND the trustee/executor - my siblings think they should be able to boss me around, but I’ve got all the authority. However, I’ve made checklists for them, printed them on 3x5 cards, and handed them out, so they at least realize I have a plan already - I don’t need theirs.
Just another couple weeks, and I’ll be able to get back to my normal schedule - I hope.

I’m at my ‘puter in my room, shifting and moving stuff as I prepare to build the second shelf. Gathering stuff for a Goodwill run as well.

Yes, I did, Lonewolf. I went to bed at 9:30 GDST and woke up around 1AM (GDST). I then went back to bed at 3AM and woke up at 9AM. That’s the most sleep I’ve had in quite some time.
It’s sparkling morning down in South-East Texas today. Even though I’ve got some major cooking to do today, I’ve got to find some time to spend outdoors.
Dry, I will add some carrots and some onion as well. But I didn’t get any red beets. You know I like pickled red beets as an appetizer. Too bad I didn’t get any of those either.
LuvH8, the Blue is a little taste of home that I picked up today, but I threw in the MGD for those who want something really smooth & light going down.
So alcoholic beverages, I suppose I will have to settle for the tea. Of course I am not Irish, so I don’t wear green and thump anyone who tries to pinch me ( :
Good Morning, Shika, Dry, Grog, ♠Lonewolf♠, LuvH8, DocT and Carmy!
I think it’s fitting that, if Wink needs to piddle, at least he’s in the woods…
Grog, if you need pickled beets, we have (literally) gallons of them available–they’re a staple for Potlucks and Funeral luncheons around here. And really strong, fresh-ground horseradish too.
@LW18, “overcast”? It’s foggy (again? Still!) here once more–the sun did come out yesterday, and a bit more this morning, but the warmer weather only makes more melting and vaporization of the ice and snow, which makes more humidity, which makes more fog or clouds…
We are well over 50 days of fog (58?) in the 72 days of 2010 so far….
@Shika, sorry, not sure when the roast biff will be coming. The fresh-ground horseradish can get pretty strong–especially if you find some nice, old roots.
Two young country lads were bored one summer day and decided it would be fun to push over the outhouse. They snuck up like a couple of spies, pushed it over, then ran laughing into the woods.
When they returned home later, their father called them over. “Did you two push over the outhouse this afternoon?” he demanded.
The older boy nodded. “I learned in school that I cannot tell a lie. Yes, father, we did push over the outhouse.”
Their father whipped them and sent them to bed without supper. In the morning, he asked them, “Have you two learned your lesson?”
“Yes, father,” the older boy said, looking confused. “But in school we learned that George Washington admitted to his father that he had chopped down a cherry tree and he was forgiven because he told the truth!”
Their father nodded. “That’s true. But George’s father wasn’t IN the cherry tree when he chopped it down!”
Hello everyone.
It’s afternoon here have yet to eat. Spring is coming glad where done with snow. Missed out on Saint Patty’s parade downtown. I’m not Irish but I will be wearing a green top.
Got word in local paper that KS will do furlough after all in state courthouse on Friday’s up to May will start in April.
I’ve had sinus infection be glad when fully cleared did go to Dr. gave Zpack was wondering if would work still wondering.
Have a great afternoon everyone. :)
Hello, bunnyface. I have plenty of horseradish (not the creamed stuff). I actually like a pinch in my Bloody Caesars as well as my roast beef. I wish I’d have talked to **Dry before I went shopping, though, so that I could pickled beets on my list.
LuvH8, I’ll pass on that.
——————————————
I liked The Flying McCoys, Blondie, 2C&C, One Big Happy, Cul de Sac and Dog Eat Doug.
Hello everyone. I’m on my way out…I have to get some floor protectors for under the shelf unit I need to build. Wal-Mart. Saturday Afternoon. Not a good combo.
Carmy that’s one I haven’t found in the bargain bin. Got a bunch of John Candy’s and Stand by Me, The Perfect Storm, and a couple of others for 5-10 bucks.
Grog I lived in Clear Lake City, Pasadena and Webster. My family is there as well. Most of the males are in law enforcement or emergency dispatching. If you have an emergency it might be my brother’s cool, calm voice directing the actions, etc, etc.
Oh, and I went by Family Dollar on the way to Wal-Mart, and sure enough they had a package of floor protectors. Whoo-Hoo!!! I’d still be trying to find a parking space!
Dry, I’m having the stew more as an appetizer today and to make sure that the seasonings are correct. When it sits overnight, it’ll be even better and be fantastic for lunch -not to mention great and quick for week-night dinners.
Per the good book, an Irish coffee is:
Into a stemmed glass or cup rimmed with sugar, pour 1 1/2 oz. Irish Whiskey. Fill to within 1/2 in. of top with strong hot black coffee. Cover surface to brim with chilled whipped cream.
I liked it, too, Dry. There were a few good ones out there, including Cul de Sac, but I thought Lio was the best. And that article on the Shoe web page put a :^))) on my face.
Carmy, I have the same DVD. But I also have DVD’s of all my favorite Classic Christmas movies. A Christmas Carol (1953), The Bells Of St. Mary’s, Christmas In Connecticut, Meet John Doe, Miracle On 34th Street, The Santa Claus and White Christmas.
My friend that called, he got a new computer and lost my email address. We have been friends since K, went thru Catholic school and HS together. First time I met him, I remember to this day that I had to walk over top of him because he was laying on the floor crying. Every now and then we laugh about that! Only ever see him at Mass once in awhile, sometimes other places, but always on Christmas Eve. A lot to the stuff I send you guys comes from him.
Grog, I do too, but it’s on video. I have several Cary Grant movies, Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer, Arsenic and Old Lace, Monkey Business and I may be forgetting some.
Cleo, I agree with you about Fred, but I don’t know who the Nicholas Brothers are.
Dry, that is so sweet that you’ve been friends so long. I’m still friends with my bestie from when I was 5 years old, but we don’t get to chat so often anymore.
Yes, the friends I’ve had the longest, even if we aren’t together in person on a regualr basis, are my friends from Catholic school for the most part. When we get together, it’s like it’s still the same! It’s a nice feeling, and I know their moms too, because my mom was friends with a lot of those mothers. 3 of them are still living, and in pretty good shape for their ages.
LW18, just keep an eye on the TCM schedule. They’re bound to be shown some time soon. They’re like classic movie staples.
Carmy,Arsenic And Old Lace was my favorite Cary Grant movies and ranks as one of my all time favorites. What a great supporting cast, too. Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer was excellent, too. I love Myrna Loye. I think I’m also taking a liking to Jean Arthur.
Carmy, I have all those on VHS, but I’m looking to upgrade. That’s where I got my exposure to Myrna Loye and William Powell. I loved Asta. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a comic strip about Asta;s adventures with the Thin Man?
Carmy oh yes, The Thin Man movies, those two played so well together! And Asta, yeah, He’s da dog! Its funny though, some times he (she) was little, sometimes a bit bigger. I wonder how many dogs actually played Asta?
cleo, I just put The More The Merrier on my wish list after seeing the movie this week. It’s hard to believe that Arthur was 43 at the time of the making of that movie. What a body!!!
Carmy, I have Walk, Don’t Run which is the same premise as The More the Merrier but I’d have to say the latter was better. Charles Coburn has Cary Grant’s Role in the innitial version.
Grog Carmy and Dry It has been a pleasure sitting here and reading the comments about the great classic movie collections. I would have commented, but I do not know much about classic movies. I have enjoyed the company here today.
Any time, LW18. I consider myself a student of the classics, but compared to some, I may be an expert. Any time you have a question, just ask, and I will try to answer.
I need six slices, I’ve been working hard today considering how dragged out I feel. The small dresser is moved, the new shelf built and the old shelf 1/2 deconstructed (complete with the prerequisite collapse on the head) and moved out to the living room. Tomorrow I move the lateral file and bookcase in here along with some bits and pieces of my desk and my move will be complete. Still got a hell of a lot to do, but it’ll be the first stage completed. 2nd stage is clearing the living room, 3rd stage is my son moving his stuff in.
I’ve put the Krispy Kreams next to the fridge for whomever has breakfast tomorrow. Enjoy.
And on that note I bid the Tribe good night.
Grog about 6 years ago I spent the night in the mansion that is in North by Northwest. It was the home of James Mason in the movie. It has now been converted to an Inn on Long Island.
cleo, that looked like a cozy little place on film. How was it in person. Which place? The one near the Washington Monument ( the place I was thinking of), or the one where Grant was drugged?
I also got to sail on the True Love, the boat featured in High Society and talked about in Philadelphia Story. A couple in the Virgin Islands owned it and I sailed from St. Thomas to St. John and back on it.
Yes, only, Carmy. Occasionally, while watching TCM, I’ll stumble on one that must be added to my collection. Presently I have about 60 movies on my wish list.
cleo, the 30’s and 40’s is the era than I’m trying to focus on now, but there are still movies from the 50’s & 60’s with such awesome stars that I’ll also add to my collection. Doris Day was one such starlette of interest at the time, as well as William Holden as a male leading man.
My favorite Hitchcock is Rear Window. Part of it is because Jimmy Stewart is a photographer and part of it is Grace Kelly, the hottest actress this side of Monaco. I really like Jimmy Stewart.
William Holden for all his great movies, including Stalag 17 and Bridge on the River Kwai, will forever be engraved in my heart for the “I Love Lucy” episode, which is my favorite of all I Love Lucy’s, and I LOVED I LOVE LUCY!
Dry, I don’t know about the best, but it was the creepiest. After my first viewing of that movie (last movie of a Sunday night PBS marathon), I found myself at my bus stop the next morning looking the birds like I never looked at them before.
I’d have to say my top 3 Hichcocks are Suspicion, Notorious & Rebecca
Carmy, cleo & Dry, there’s no such thing as a BAD Hitchcock movie, in my opinion. But as it stands the ones I listed are my top 6. There’s also the original Man Who Knw Too Much and the remake. There’s Rope & Torn Curtain. They’re all good and a cut above most of the rest.
Shika, Grog and Carmy I was outside in my friends yard one day and we were talking. A hummingbird flew by her and she literally freaked out, which surprised me because she is so calm otherwise. I asked her if she reacted that way because she had seen The Birds. She said no, but birds always scared her ever since she was a child!
Well, it’s not quite the same LuvH8, but here you go:
On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered ‘round
And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up, and she said leave this one alone
She could tell right away, that I was bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone
I broke a thousand hearts, before I met you
I’ll break a thousand more baby, before I am through
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I’m here to tell ya honey, that I’m bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone
I make a rich woman beg, I’ll make a good woman steal
I’ll make an old woman blush, and make a young woman squeal
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I’m here to tell ya honey, that I’m bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone
this was day 2 on the movie Grog. It is a very entertaining movie and we still have 15 minutes left. My wife has fallen asleep the last two nights and I can’t complain because I do it more often than she does. This movie has me awake and entertained.
A buddy of mine used to nod off to Indiana Jones. I bought for him for Christmas one year, and said just in case you ever get insomnia, just play this.
I often watch a movie until near the end, and then miss the end. Don’t know why I bother. It’s usually this time of night. Guess I don’t fall asleep here because I’m not just sitting on a cozy couch.
Carmy, we were watching it in the middle of the afternoon - and no he doesn’t work nights.
I don’t allow myself to watch a movie so late that I could fall asleep during it - unless I plan it that way. There are actors who will put me to sleep for sure.
My Mom was a great one for falling asleep just before the end of a movie. I think I have to agree with her that it’s due to the long commercial breaks - another reason why I like TCM.

Dry, I will add some carrots and some onion as well. But I didn’t get any red beets. You know I like pickled red beets as an appetizer. Too bad I didn’t get any of those either.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Dry I think this should continue though the 17th. If there’s anything left over, it may continue until all gone.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog yes I love pickled red beets. Sounds like you cook the way do! When it’s all done and on my plate, I put a BIG dolap of horseradish on the side!

Labatte Blue? MGD?
Lonewolf - You slept? (Happy Dance!)
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Horse radish is good too, Dry, but I think i prefer freshly made hot mustard for the corned beef.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog LaBatt is a very good choice to go with that! I hope your Irish Coffee has some Baileys or Carolann’s mixed in.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
LuvH8, the Blue is a little taste of home that I picked up today, but I threw in the MGD for those who want something really smooth & light going down.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Thank you LuvH8
I’ve got Coronas on the list today, Grog. But I’ll start with a Bloody Mary.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Consider it added to the menu, Lonewolf. I like Bloody Caesars, but I didn’t think it would go well with the Irish Coffee.
Dry, I do have Bailey’s in stock, but I’ll stick with the Jameson’s for my own drink.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
So alcoholic beverages, I suppose I will have to settle for the tea. Of course I am not Irish, so I don’t wear green and thump anyone who tries to pinch me ( :

LuvH8, I am Irish/German, but I don’t think I really needed that as an excuse. LOL
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
LuvH8, didn’t you know that everyone’s Irish on St. Patricks Day?
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog never had Jameson’s so I’ll try it. And why not mix the mustard and horseradish, I have done that. Quite tasty!

And really strong, fresh-ground horseradish too.
ladywolf17 over 14 years ago
I can’t tell what the weather will be like here, where I live right now because it is overcast. Give or take about another hour then I’ll know.
Shikamoo Premium Member over 14 years ago
Hi bmonk!
Pickled beets sound good. I’ve never had freshly ground horse radish before. I do like plain horseradish better than cream-style.

bmonk over 14 years ago
@LW18, “overcast”? It’s foggy (again? Still!) here once more–the sun did come out yesterday, and a bit more this morning, but the warmer weather only makes more melting and vaporization of the ice and snow, which makes more humidity, which makes more fog or clouds…
We are well over 50 days of fog (58?) in the 72 days of 2010 so far….

Hi Again Shika!

Grog 2 big meals within a couple of hours of each other? And I thought I ate a lot, LOL!
carmy over 14 years ago

GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Dry, I’m having the stew more as an appetizer today and to make sure that the seasonings are correct. When it sits overnight, it’ll be even better and be fantastic for lunch -not to mention great and quick for week-night dinners.
Per the good book, an Irish coffee is:
Into a stemmed glass or cup rimmed with sugar, pour 1 1/2 oz. Irish Whiskey. Fill to within 1/2 in. of top with strong hot black coffee. Cover surface to brim with chilled whipped cream.

Carmy, I have all those on VHS, but I’m looking to upgrade. That’s where I got my exposure to Myrna Loye and William Powell. I loved Asta. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a comic strip about Asta;s adventures with the Thin Man?
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Carmy oh yes, The Thin Man movies, those two played so well together! And Asta, yeah, He’s da dog! Its funny though, some times he (she) was little, sometimes a bit bigger. I wonder how many dogs actually played Asta?
carmy over 14 years ago
Cleo, I haven’t seen that one. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Cleo I live near a big creek, which I’m sure will flood if it hasn’t already, but I live on a hill.

Dry, who knows? Asta often stole the show!

Grog, that would be a good idea for an Asta comic strip!

Carmy, I have Walk, Don’t Run which is the same premise as The More the Merrier but I’d have to say the latter was better. Charles Coburn has Cary Grant’s Role in the innitial version.

I have a few with the Dead End kids. Angels With Dirty Faces, Crime School, & Dead End. There are more but not many have been released on VHS or DVD.

Did someone say ‘PIZZA’*
Enjoy. And on that note I bid the Tribe good night.
carmy over 14 years ago
Well I thought of that also, but since High Anxiety is a spoof of his films, I thought of it too.

COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Hi Cleo. Good movie?
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Grog about 6 years ago I spent the night in the mansion that is in North by Northwest. It was the home of James Mason in the movie. It has now been converted to an Inn on Long Island.
carmy over 14 years ago
Me too, Cleo, me too! Grog, you have too many movies dude! I’ve seen some of those that you mentioned, but not all of them.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
It is Lonewolf, it deals with the civil war, but from the Southern side, featuring a team of guerrilla fighters called the Missouri Bushwackers.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
cleo, that looked like a cozy little place on film. How was it in person. Which place? The one near the Washington Monument ( the place I was thinking of), or the one where Grant was drugged?

Cleo, way cool about the mansion!
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Carmy, I only have 413 movies at the moment. But I’m working on it.

I also got to sail on the True Love, the boat featured in High Society and talked about in Philadelphia Story. A couple in the Virgin Islands owned it and I sailed from St. Thomas to St. John and back on it.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Ah yes. The one he owned, but didn’t own. Remember, the place was made to look as though no one was living there when Grant returned with the police.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
That is my favorite era for movies, from the late 30’s to late 40’s.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Of course North by Northwest was newer, but it had the spirit of those times.
carmy over 14 years ago
Cleo, I hope you remembered to get photos for your scrapbook!

Yes, only, Carmy. Occasionally, while watching TCM, I’ll stumble on one that must be added to my collection. Presently I have about 60 movies on my wish list.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog you are forgetting the best Hitchcock film of all time, IMHO, THE BIRDS!!!! l loved that, still do!
cleokaya over 14 years ago
You know Carmy, I think I got photos, but I am not positive on that score. I did get photos of the True Love.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
The Birds! Whenever I drive down the coast in California, I get the creeps when I pass through that town.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
cleo, the 30’s and 40’s is the era than I’m trying to focus on now, but there are still movies from the 50’s & 60’s with such awesome stars that I’ll also add to my collection. Doris Day was one such starlette of interest at the time, as well as William Holden as a male leading man.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
My favorite Hitchcock is Rear Window. Part of it is because Jimmy Stewart is a photographer and part of it is Grace Kelly, the hottest actress this side of Monaco. I really like Jimmy Stewart.
Movie time.

William Holden for all his great movies, including Stalag 17 and Bridge on the River Kwai, will forever be engraved in my heart for the “I Love Lucy” episode, which is my favorite of all I Love Lucy’s, and I LOVED I LOVE LUCY!
And Doris Day, well, class act!

Dry, I don’t know about the best, but it was the creepiest. After my first viewing of that movie (last movie of a Sunday night PBS marathon), I found myself at my bus stop the next morning looking the birds like I never looked at them before.
