Hey, didn’t Calvin resign himself to eating gruel once?
Edit: No, Calvin wrote (and Hobbes illustrated?) a story called “The Dad who Lived to Regret Being Mean to his Kid”, in which a child bearing an uncanny resemblance to Calvin locks his father in the cellar with only mice and gruel to eat, for the crime of forcing his son to eat peas!

Eat your grool and prepare to die with dignity! Or vice versa.

Too bad he didn’t order Gruel; then there would be no disappointment.
