Why aren’t these facts coming out in the mainstream media? Sarah Palin is a tragic joke.

That stuff is reported in the media. We just don’t listen. The media cannot, and should not, make judgements. That’s for us to decide, on an individual basis. If voters think that those sort of things will have an impact on how a candidate will serve than they should consider them when deciding on who to vote for.

Does anyone know what that “five colleges in six years” remark means? It shot right by me.

This IS the mainstream media, Mr. Dolan. More people read this strip than they do the Comments page in the Editorial section of your paper.

    Dypak-

Five colleges in six years refers to Sarah Palin. She attended five separate colleges over a six year span on her way to a journalism degree.

The two previous Presidents were a Rhodes Scholar with a Jurisdoctorate (Doctor of Law) degree (Clinton) and a Harvard MBA (Bush).

There’s no secret here. With McCain it may BE “dribble”. That “family values” truly has become an oxymoron is NOT just Palin. but the thundering herd.

    Charles says:

Satire is one thing, but the outrageous way Sarah Palin, her husband, and especially, her teenage daughter were trashed in the Oct. 12 strip is definitely crossing the line. It is obvious that those responsible for this rubbish are totally lacking in knowing the meaning of moral character or common decency. I have read my last Doonesbury comic.

Susan, why would you say Palin DESERVES a trashing? She any different than Obama’s wife who “hates” this country?

Huge difference. Obama’s wife didn’t join/endorse a violent separatist group.

When did Michelle Obama ever say she hates this country? Don’t go believing the words that Faux news puts in her mouth.

It’s just a matter of whose ox is being gored. If a Democrat had any of this kind of history the GOP would be howling over it. In fact, they’ve been so enthusiastic about false “facts” about Obama’s family and background (Michelle hates America; Barack is a Muslim; etc…) that they have no moral defense at all.

But what I really want to know is why can’t Mark land a cute, progressive BF?

Amazing how people “believe” these accusations. They don’t see the socialistic attitude of the Democrats or the media’s attempt to discredit a “typical” family with “typical” life issues. They want a lawyer for a President who has a history of playing down real issues and ignoring responsibility.

It just dawned on me - what’s wrong with being Muslim AND the President. I thought the British were the only ‘ruling family’ that decided on the basis of religion.

So… We’re talking about the woman’s daughter’s private life when discussing whether or not the mother should be Vice President? How about we stick to the main issues: abortion, taxes, gun control, border security, and national defense? McCain: No abortion unless mom’s life is in jeopardy. Taxes stay the same or lower, no furthering of gun restriction, increased border security, and a plan on national defense that includes finishing in Iraq before moving all assets to Afghanistan. Obama: Unfettered abortion, raise taxes on the rich so that we can give more handouts to the “poor” (ie: lazy), open borders, Draconian gun control laws which would outlaw guns which means that only outlaws would own guns, and an immediate pullout from Iraq which would mean that all we’ve done there has been in vain, including my two deployments to that armpit of a country.

Sexism is alive and well ain’t it? Just my opinion and say what you will, but it is truly a sad state of affairs when “free speech” allows for personal attacks on a family. The jokes about Palin are now out of hand considering the Dems appear to be off limits for the same. Just a sad commentary on our morals as a nation…

So, the way I understand it…Palin is allowed to drag her kids (to the tune of $46,000 from Alaska for commercial air) all over the US and use them to show her “family values” when it’s convenient for her and when it shows what a committed family person she is, but they are off limits to criticism if someone has a problem with her “values” Stay at home, Sarah, and START raising your kids. Bristol’s pregnancy is a cry for some motherly love, girl. Drop your shotgun, if you’re going to go hunting at least do it in a sportman-like way and not from a helicopter, and try, just try, to be a mother. You need real help, lady.

Funny how Republicans like Limbaugh can take cheap shots at Chelsea Clinton but as soon as Trudeau fires one off along with alot more true items about Palin for one the right wing nuts cry foul. Just saw an item on Faux News I mean fox news where they were saying Trudeau has been making an a$$ of himself for years. I guess it’s that good old right wing nut double standard.

Re: all the hue and cry about the comments in this comic…IT’S A COMIC! Trudeau is not on TV *saying *these things. Palin made her family targets as soon as she started bringing them along to all her appearances-I assume she knew that would make them fair game. Go to the beginning of the strip, he’s pointing out that the Repubs have dropped the family values thing, because now it’s inconvenient. It’s that thing about glass houses. Of course the Dems have baggage too. I’ll also say that the things he’s pointing out are all true, unlike some of the garbage coming out of Ms. Palin’s mouth.

Ever heard Limbaugh go after Hillary when Bill was president? Or Chelsea? He spent a lot of time on the Clinton’s daughter. Mean, nasty, vicious stuff–not tame, innocuous, comical material like the above.

Guess going after kids is only fair when done in the name of GOP.

Oh, these Rethuglican “tough guys “have awfully thin skins when it comes to listening to the truth. Cwcarlson (any relation to Tucker?), there are no “accusations” here. These are all documented facts, many of which have received precious little coverage from the press. Unlike, say, the ridiculous and over-repeated charge that Obama is a Muslim (which actually shouldn’t present a problem, other than to bigots, except for the inconvenient fact that it isn’t true). Or the daily references to Bill Ayers, in spite of the facts that Obama was 8 years old at the time of Ayers’ activities in the Weather Underground, and that many of the others who served on the Annenberg Foundation (as well as Annenberg himself) were Republicans.

Unfair to make references to Bristol’s current and unfortunate predicament? Sorry, but as several posters have pointed out, Ms. Palin has made her daughter and the rest of her family fair game by clumsily dragging them around to all her campaign appearances (including the ludicrous attempt to hide Bristol’s belly with Baby Trig at the Republican convention, and the late-night awakening of the baby himself for a video op at the end of the Palin-Biden debate).

Andybcrazy and Pashan have both rightfully pointed out Rush Limbaugh’s cruel jabs at Chelsea Clinton. Forget Limbaugh: what about McCain himself, who joked before an august Republican audience that the reason Chelsea was so ugly was because her father was Janet Reno? Disgustingly sexist and homophobic comment, which I understand, of course, wouldn’t bother most of the extreme right wingnuts posting here.

For that matter, forget about Bill Ayers and let’s talk terrorism here: Todd Palin was a member of the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party for several years, and Sarah Palin offered welcoming comments to their state convention. Now the late fuehrer of the AIP, Joe Vogler, DID hate the United States of America: “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions.”

Vogler disappeared in May 1993, just weeks before he was scheduled to give a speech to the United Nations condemning American tyranny and advocating Alaskan independence. His appearance was to have been sponsored by the government of Iran. Convicted thief Manfried West confessed to having murdered Vogler in what he described as a plastic explosives sale gone bad.

Finally, listen to Sen. McCain’s “friend”, convicted Watergate burglar, now ex-con and talk show host, G. Gordon Liddy. Liddy, whom McCain considers a “patriot”, was sentenced to 20 years for his Nixon-era crimes against democracy. He spent 5 1/2 years in prison (including 100 days in solitary), and didn’t have to serve his full sentence because that horrible liberal, Jimmy Carter, issued him a pardon. He’s also donated $5,000 to McCain’s campaigns, and the Senator has also appeared on his program over the last few years.

But these two gems should be the clincher for “law and order” Republicans. In Liddy’s autobiography “Will” (as in “Triumph of the … “) he admitted to having discussed a plan to murder the late muckraking journalist Jack Anderson. And in 1994, he declared on the air: “Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they’re going to be wearing bulletproof vests. Kill the sons of bitches.”

Don’t get me started on the Keating Five.

If you watch/read/write/talk about it, then it will stay exactly the same or get worse. If you don’t like the coverage, get rid of your tv/newspaper subscription (however longer they last)/internet. Feeding the beast will only make it more hungry. Personally, I thought this one was hilarious, hurrah for free speech!
