hey gang, i might not be able to comment much because i start school today :( have fun without me…… by the way: calvin, this is why you need to eat your dinner. otherwise you won’t weigh much.
Maybe Bill W. was saluting an old comic from a past generation. I vaguely remember it when I was a kid – they had an “astronaut” named Foster who had a balloon like that and talked about what he saw.
I want to say it was called “Winthrop” but I’m not sure.
Could it be 7-4-96? Even maginified, it’s hard to make out the date. The copywrite year is in the second panel and the date appears to be in the 4th panel.
I agree that it must be a dream. One balloon wouldn’t be able to send Calvin aloft. So, while he’s dreaming, what he needs now is a giant pterodactyl to burst his balloon and get him grounded with both feet on the ground. No more of these pie in the skies fantasies!
I have to kids in school. A young adult might go back. For all the kids have a great first day. Calvin school time is coming that could burst your bubble or dream. There are two that are not listed on gocomics Babby Blues and Zitts
ninmas - Have a good day at school. Here is my list of favorite comics (in no particular order).
Calvin & Hobbes
Bloom County
Citizen Dog
Dog Eat Doug
Pinkerton
Red & Rover
Zits
The Duplex
Ballard Street
The Barn
2 Cows & A Chicken
Scary Gary
Baby Blues
Big Top
Imagine This
good thing this wasn’t “no strings attached” or calvin would be in more trouble than he all ready is. i hope the string doesn’t become unattached (detached?)
Neither Calvin nor Margueritem know what this strip shows. I think it shows that even Bill Watterson runs short of funny situation ideas every once in awhile.
Yes, @bandz, and look how funny he succeeds in being, just the same! You are a very creative man, Mr Watterson!
That first panel, where Calvin has this sweet, innocent expression on his face, which you only ever see when he’s trying to con his parents into something.- it made me suspicious right away. Like, if he feels so good, he’s soon about to feel not-so-good. Something is going to happen for sure. Sort of setting the stage for the rest of the action.
Oh, ptooiedaffodil (I feel that this is a stronger epithet than “oh, poo”)… I hope it ends happily - but how could it not?
Like the cat who ate some cheese, and then sat at the mousehole with baited breath, I am waiting for tomorrow when I will see another few panels’ worth unfold.

To Lewreader:
nitrous oxide? This is no laughing matter.
Susie, get help! Calvin really needs it this time. That’s what Calvin gets for “crying wolf” in the sandbox.
Has anybody ever said that Calvin was down-to-earth, anyway?
Puddleglum2 about 15 years ago
Life is full of surprises, Calvin.

Stay away from helium um baloons until you’ve put on a little more weight.
I don’t remember this either, but it is good.
