The totalitarian system has been established already, I’m afraid “Stupendous Man”. And it’s been in power much longer than you’ve been around, which gives it a mighty headstart against any Freedom Fighting Super heroes. But thanks for trying; perhaps you’ll inspire others.

Still another brilliant proof of Calvin’s development as a Jungian ENFP.

You ain’t seen totalitarian yet, sensilance, although they’re working on it.

My son cut eyeholes in one of his black knit caps and wore my black hooded sweatshirt jacket over his head with the drawstrings pulled tight and the rest of the sweatshirt flowing behind him one day. That was his superhero costume he wore around the house on a daily basis for quite awhile. I wish I could come up with the superhero name he gave himself. He’s still a superhero to me. Tonight he was out shopping and surprised me with a large cup of French Vanilla Cappucino that I can heat up in the morning.

I would love to see a 6-year-old with the vocabulary and imagination that Calvin has. He would have to be in at least the tenth grade.

See, Mom and Calvin ARE cut out of the same cloth, even if it does have eye-holes. PARTICULARLY if it does have eye-holes.

BenDavid, it is all in the raising. Start them early with more than “da-da” and “goo-goo”.

Read to them - Shel Silverstein, Rudyard Kipling, and Nathaniel Hawthorne while they are three and four, and they will take it from there. Don’t get them lost in Dr.Seuss, they might stall there.

LOVE the artwork in panels 3-6. Bill Watterson, you are sorely missed. NOTHING compares today, not even close! I wish Watterson did several days of this story line at night, like the Tracer Bullet C&H story lines–it’d be great to admire all that art work.

Comics now sure are lacking by comparison. There’s more artistry in panel 5 alone than I’ll find in the total sum of every strip published today in my paper. Thanks to the syndicate for republishing them here!

handsome, 6-year old, millionaire playboy??? Doesn’t he know that to be a playboy he has to go near a girl? With all the crazy questions my kids have asked me over the years, it makes me wonder what his definition of a “playboy” is.

Senseilance: I may not be happy on Monday morning, but I’m nobody’s bleeep slave. In the day, when I was in the service, I had a picture on my bulkhead of a little mouse flipping off a big eagle coming in for the kill. The caption under the picture was “The last great act of defiance.” I may be old, slow and crippled, now, but I’m still nobodys bleeep slave - and that includes our own government too.

He doesn’t know why he feels so great. He can actually survive in the face of his mother, who can physically force him to go to bed at a certain apparently unforgotten time.

Calvin should consider himself lucky. With the look on her face in the next to the last panel, he could have gotten his britches warmed before being thrown into bed.

Except I’d rate him an introvert, hence INFP…So much of his fantasy life is internal, and he gets by fine with just a few real-life relationships. An ENFP would go stir-crazy with so few friends.

“Handsome, 6 year old, millionaire, playboy Calvin.”

    “My evil arch-nemesis, MOM LADY.”

And so many still can’t seem find the joy in this strip, and find it necessary to bash Calvin and stick up for that awful mother. I spelled it all out yesterday. This has become tedious.

As far as Calvin is concerned, a playboy is a boy who gets to play all night and all day without school or bedtime or that other boring stuff.

Here’s a similar take on the situation … the development of an totalitarian society. The post modern totalitarian version of society, would be a little more abstract and complicated than those seen in hitler, mao, etc. Post modern regimes may not be easily defined as being ruled by a single oppressive ruler, but rather, by a socially consented, accepted system, controlled by groups within the ruling classes; this system strives to make us believe we are happy, while we continue to buy into it; and ‘deviant’ if we do not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPw5prYLc5w&feature=related

Marvee & anyone else…. I don’t take it too seriously. I feel the same way about it now as I did in its original run. I’m seeing too many off base commenters here, who can’t even comprehend a 25 year old comic strip about a little kid. I think it’s sad. Funny how I get picked out and slammed by those with poor comprehension skills, for participating in a conversation, out of all the others who also stated that they see the premise of the strip the way I do. This wasn’t our first time around in this convo with newbies.

Thanks Susan and SassyLuckyChance! : )

My best friend when I was small WAS Calvin, to a T. The escapades and imagination rival Calvin’s. He even looked just like him, and let me assure you, he served this country as a Marine, he is a long time Police Officer, he runs his own Judo school and his children are high up in Boy Scouts. I have no problem sticking up for Calvin, because I saw him grow up into an outstanding citizen, father and husband. His wife is a lucky woman. And that’s how most children like Calvin tend to turn out. They are not stupid and undisciplined. They are the exact opposite of it.

Calvin however remains 6, and in order to understand this strip, you need to think like a 6 year old. Period.
