Morning everyone! You see! We dads ARE good for something! And Mom, this was your chance to turn this into a positive lesson for Calvin, not belittle Dad. Shame on you!
I am curious about something. I usually log on when I get to work around 7:00 a.m. here in NC. I see comments posted 6 hours ago, thats 1:00 a.m. Eastern time. Does nobody sleep anymore or are you all on the night shift?
Any way, have a pleasant day! Montana Lady, I hope you had a nice trip last week!
My dad was wonderful at fixing anything that needed to be fixed, he was the ultimate handy-man with all the gadgets and tools available at his disposal. He died 6 years ago, and I miss him dearly… Love you papa!
VistaBill - I presumed that Calvin “snapped the battery case” in half and that Dad was just gluing the halves back together. No one is so stupid that they’d glue a battery cover in place. That would be on the same level as forcing everyone to buy health insurance from a bloated, out-of-control government who…
pamlicorat……………..we’re only half way through our travels, we’re heading to San Diego to visit with family there. On tonight’s menu is really good Italian at Little Italy. Can’t wait!!!
pamlicorat said, “I am curious about something. I usually log on when I get to work around 7:00 a.m. here in NC. I see comments posted 6 hours ago, thats 1:00 a.m. Eastern time. Does nobody sleep anymore or are you all on the night shift?”
I was beginning to think that I was the only person on the east coast! I stay up every night so I can read the comics! While I’m waiting, I usually have emails to read and answer… files to backup etc. so I’m not wasting time.
pamlicorat you asked the same thing I wonder to. I’m in KS central time about time for me to eat lunch. And there always ahead of me.
Glad dad could help reminds me of my dad. Now my husband does help to fix things.
Growing up, I loved to take things apart to see how they were made and attempt (sometimes successfully) to put them back together. Dad was always patient with our experimenting.
Went on to get a degree in Mechanical/Aero Engineering. After marrying and moving far away, we got back home only two or three times a year. Had to always take my toolbox with us, because I knew Dad would have lots of little fixit jobs for me to work on around their house. He was amazed at some of the solutions I would come up with.
My husband is a real “Mr. Fix-It” because he’s a general contractor and construction’s in his blood (got it from his dad who was also in the g.c. business). I don’t think there’s anything in the world he can’t fix!
MY dad, on the other hand, was a completely different story. He didn’t know how to fix anything … not even something as simple as changing the washer in a faucet!
De 33:27 The eternal God [is thy] refuge, and underneath [are] the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy [them].
Maybe a little more meaning in the entire verse than you wanted to see, khpage?
Might have been thinking of the hymn: “Everlasting Arms” by Larry Dyke?
“Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.”
This dad has earned a bit of criticism. It’s a surprise that he even looked at it – usually he sends Calvin packing. So – good for Dad on this one, maybe he can keep up the good work!!
pamlicorat – some of us are retired night owls, tho I never get my go-comics before 4 or 5 in the morning, so I usually get to them the next night.
For me when I can’t sleep I don’t get on the computer across from our bedroom, because my husband can sleep, lucky him. Some times I ask him how does he do it fall asleep good. Here it is noisy with traffic and traffic in the house. So when I can’t sleep I will either read my book or watch tapes on tv from the vcr. We did finally buy a dvd and vcr combo and let my mom have the vcr since she wanted a clock and I have no intention of teaching her about dvd’s. I tape some court shows some are funny and dum can’t waite for the judge to reprimand.
pamlicorat if you click on yesterday’s strip tonight at midnight , you’ll probably get tomorrows. I am on central time so the best I can hope for is to say :
Good Night Marg!” ‘cause I’ll never be first!

Fatherly heroism is such a fleeting thing. So is Calvin’s interest in the Beanie….once it’s up and running he’ll lose interest in it within minutes.

@grazer: that’s what makes Calvin so endearing.. his short attention span…
wish I could be like he is..

“To fix something with glue all you have to do is stick to it.” That’s a good one. I will remember it.
Any man can learn to be a handy-fix-it-man but some are more predisposed to be one than others. I suppose we all have our specialties.
