That wasn’t nice of the officier to call Calvin a wierdo. Kids look up to policeman and he probably feels even safer thinking he’s there to help get things back to normal again.
Good morning all! And good one Puddleglum2. I never
thought about that. Glad to see Calvin’s back to his old
self. I can’t wait to hear Hobbes’ version.
Johanan Rakkav,
I assume you are jesting, since Calvin’s form of coping is unrealistic, as is often the case. He seems to be compensating ineffectively.
“Compensate implies a making amends for or supplying a recompense for whatever has been suffered or lost through another;”
I think it’s wonderful for a child to have that much faith
in his toy tiger. This shows Calvin DOES have a loving
side to him :-) Hooray for you, sweet child.
Right now Calvin feels the immense joy of not having lost the thing he feels is most important to him … just like any other kid. His unbridled enthusiasm is wonderful; I don’t think the policemen is referring to Calvin, though …
I hate to say it, but I rather doubt that Hobbes would be able to identify the burglars. He wouldn’t have seen much from his vantage point under the covers. Not to mention that he was probably asleep the whole time.
On the other hand, Calvin is probably right in that the burglars were scared off by the presence of a tiger in the house – asleep or not.
Personally, I prefer to let sleeping tigers go on sleeping.

Mandibles of death sounds ‘grrrrreat’ until you get picky about it (in good humor).
As you might know, mandibles is used especially of the jaws of beaked animals, as birds.
In arthropods, mandibles are the interior pair of mouth appendages which often form strong biting jaws.
We can give Calvin some ‘poetic’ license here for effect.
Douda said,

Since Hobbes is really ‘Calvin’s other self’, he has a loving side to him(self). However, it appears obvious that you have a loving side to you, and a smile face to boot so I won’t find fault. Have a ‘grrrrreat’ day!
Snoopy said,
“I’d make a lousy ant..”
Cheer up, Snoopy! Humans can’t make ants at all, and only God can make a good ant!
BTW, Snoopy was really fascinated by the ants for their scurrying busyness and energy as opposed to his lazy idleness. I guess that’s where we get the term “dogging it”.
1 a : jaw 1a; especially : a lower jaw consisting of a single bone or of completely fused bones b : the lower jaw with its investing soft parts c : either the upper or lower segment of the bill of a bird
