Life is stressful enough as is, maybe that’s why domestic violence thrives. If life were more like TV we’d have more melodrama, bad lines and Jerry Springer-type brawls.
Maybe somebody will score a goal! That should satisfy Calvin’s ‘yen’ for excitement …in Japan, anyway.
Seriously, enjoy your ‘football’ game! Maybe I’ll watch some of my favorite ‘boring baseball’ team’s game. The Red Sox have had more debilitating injuries than the continually active soccer teams have. Go figure! Soccer players are among the best-conditioned athletes.
All your ideas just fell flat, Calvin. Maybe if you concentrated on controlling your wagon instead of ‘wagon’ your tongue so much, you might be a heap sight better off rather than landing in a heap.
Why don’t you just ‘hitch your wagon to a star”!
“When you wish upon a star
makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
will come to you”
That’s a nice fantasy in song, but I’ll stay with you-know-who!
If Calvin would only live in the moment he wouldn’t have to imagine all that into it. Hobbes is much more down to earth as you can see thats where they both ended up anyway.
I’m watching just that with the Tour de France and as far as the match to this comic… there were riders yesterday who were BOMBING down the roads at 65mph. A single bobble at that speed and you will be leaving large portions of epidermis on French roads!
PUDDLEGLUM Do not annoy a New England fan who is watching his team totter out with a field of minor leaguers. This year we have an excuse, “we wooda beat the Bronx ‘cept we only had one old man who could hit.”Just wait till 2089.
Why couldn’t my name be Beaver and have a father like Ward who would fix everything in a half hour?
That’s why I like to watch the shows where people are trying to do things well - Project Runway, Top Chef, Next Great Artist, Chopped…. I love all the ones that involve art, design and cooking (all things I like to dabble in myself ;-)
Love the art work in the last panel– how their bodies made a silhouette (including Calvin’s hair) impacted hole in the ground for them to climb out of…:-)
TV shows are much more dismal than real life…imagine Jillian whatshername at your home trying to torture you into some unattainable shape..seems just awful..like watching really horrible accidents…oh wait we are watching an oil spill in the gulf killing everything in its path…
A great action strip again for a Sunday but a bit confusing with the dialogue. I had to reread it several times to try to get the meaning behind it all. I think it’s that we should understand that the things we see on tv are for entertainment purposes and not at all realistic when compared to day to day reality.
Growing up we didn’t get a second tv until I was 10 years old. We always watched television as a family and discussed what we saw and my parents always reminded me that tv was fantasy and not reality. I guess that’s why I was never career driven and knew that family came first and the rest would fall into place in it’s own time. Thanks Mom and Dad!
If your life is too feather-brained already, Hobbes, it must be for the birds.
“Don’t worry about a thing”, Lewreader. I didn’t watch the game, but the RS eked one out today. It’s time for the All-Star break, not a bone-break, for a change. Calvin breaks the rules, but not his bones.
Hobbes is falling head-over-heels for Calvin. Shouldn’t it be Susie? If Susie always wore tight clothes, Calvin probably would give her a tumble.
I don’t know about all the above. Me I can’t change the past would like to improve my future but age has a way of coming up.
What amazes me so much with C&H is Calvin is able to talk with Hobbes with all going on with the wagon. Me I might be screaming out from terror.
I had to magnify this to read it. the darker colors make it especially difficult.
I think it’s only Hobbes that appreciates the tight clothes on girls. The attribution line was impossible to see.
C&H often does this kind of thing - a philosophical discussion while doing something very dangerous. Hobbes has a better grasp on reality than Calvin does.
Calvin should be more careful and enjoy life in the moment. That is possible.
I like TV crime/police shows as escapism.
gofinsc I resemble that remark. I’ve learned a lot of court shows and you selected two of them. I like it when Judge Joe Brown gets ready to lecture, glad it’s not me. Judge Judy met her in person years ago and she is a sweet lady. I bought one of her books told her if she had Mr. S trial it would have ended sooner. I only watch one more. Been wondering when reruns would start. I figured your not crazy about them.
To answer his final question, I would say that the media of today already depicts what he is trying to say. Whether the reality is like that I do not know. Oh, the way of someone who has been misinformed can see things differently makes me chuckle.
@ mrprongs I agree, but that’s because Hobbes is his influence and Hobbes likes women like that. Kids will repeat everything. It makes sense for Hobbes to like them, though.
Somehow, I don’t think I could handle being on the Enterprise, getting into trouble the way Bart Simpson does, or having a Pikachu at my right hand, shocking me at random intervals.

Well TV has become a series of “reality” shows where everyone watches other people live their own lives. I am glad that I got rid of my TV years ago.

Move that second “o” from “loose”, to make “LOSE” as you meant it, and put it into “to” to make it “TOO MUCH” as you meant it.
I always told my son when he was doing his homework to remember he went TO school, and his homework was always TOOOOOOOOOOOO much.
And what would we watch? Survivor, Big Brother, Biggest Loser, The Bachelor, Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Anybodyelse, ad nauseum.
