This one reminds me of Michel from Lönneberga (the wonderfol book written by Astrid Lindgren). He always had such “interesting” ideas and he always ended in a barn to “think” about what he had done.
When I was a child, my mother had a very expensiv piano and I liked it to scratch my drawings into soft wood or polished furniture. So I scratched a big star into the front of the expensive piano, when my mother found this, I had a bottom like Calvin here in the last panel!

“I wait with anticipation for an antidote to today’s punsters.”
“Anticipation” - Carly Simon
Your anticipation looks like participation to me, with ‘pun’ctuation. However, It’s far better than your usual ‘ant’ics.
I think you’re making a mountain out of an anthill, but okay, let’s have no ‘more on’ ants! We’ll get to ‘the seat of the matter’ and leave the ants ‘behind’.
No forgiveness for this one.
When i was a kid and my dad would be scolding me me for something I did, he would ask me “Don’t you stop to think that you are going to get in trouble before you do things?” To which I would answer “yes.”
In some cases getting in trouble was worth the fun of doing whatever it was I was getting scolded for.
When my son was about 4 years old we went to the beach and he was playing nicely in the sand with some kids his age. I was working on my tan laying on my stomach and probably nodded off a bit listening to the music on the radio. Out of nowhere my son came over and dumped a cold pail of lake water on me, my radio, and our dry clothes, etc. We left the beach promptly that day with me soaking wet and nothing dry to wipe off on or wear back home. I had to leave the car open when we got home to dry out the seats. I was prepared there after with extra towels in the car and left our clothes in there too. The incident never happened again after that of course!
My mother beat the living daylights out of both my sister and I for infractions far less than this. If we had done something like this, we would have been in danger of being killed on the spot. Fear God and your mother and live…..
Of course, now Mom would probably be locked up and Calvin sent to Child Protective Services for such ‘cruelty,’ but that’s the way it went in the good ol’ days.
Dino-1: Great story! Out of curiosity, is the reason that something like this never happened again was because your son’s bottom “saw stars” afterwards (like our dear little Calvin’s) … or was it because you were completely prepared for it to happen again but, fortunately, it just turned out to be a one-time incident?
Cognizant,
I thought of making a partial disclaimer, but I let you do it.
This is an example of a statement from the Bible that isn’t guaranteed all the time.
BTW, does your name have any connection with Jinx, the cat from the Pixie and Dixie cartoons. One of his famous comments was, ” I am uh- cognizant of that fact.”
I was surprised that no one really commented on the corporal punishment until grazer (approx 40th comment). I agree with him.
khpage, to “beat the living daylights” out of a child for an infraction that does no damage or injury (or, for less than that) doesn’t seem wise to me. You may be OK, or even the better for it. But the world is full of people who aren’t: those who commit arbitrary cruelties that stem from pent-up rage, frustration, disrespectedness, and failure to ever learn to discipline one’s self voluntarily. I agree with grazer because we don’t need to create more of that.
