We have 5 indoor cats and have managed without that much damage! Just like with dogs (watch Dog Whisperer), it’s the owners that cause of the problems.
we have three kitties with claws and we have always expected them to behave - as a result, they use the scratching posts we have provided rather than the furniture…

declawed, detoothed, skinned…. don’t get me wrong, I like cats…they taste like chicken
