I also just took a look at Earl and Gertie, the Early Days from March of 2009. Fun to see all that again. Jim would be able to make a very nice book of it all.

Hector…. you might try to clean the tears out of your eyes before dialing. In your case, you just hit “last number redial” as 1-800-WAH-WAAH is a non working number.
Yep Saturday is getting closer. and going to be another cliff hanger. Its getting to where I’m getting to hate weekends and loving Mondays with this story arc.
I’m still thinking we’ll go the Cinderella route here, as some others have predicted. I bet Gertie will suddenly feel that she doesn’t want Earl to see her this way, and will make a break for it. Earl will lunge after her, but will end up with only her wig…
GA is not my favorite strip ever, but i have a lot of respect for Scancarelli. The art and pacing are very well done. Can we start a petition to get him on Dick Tracy?
Okay, I should qualify my qualified praise of Scancarelli…I am a diehard Dick Moores fan (he did the strip prior to Jim), and his version was gospel to me. So since I’ve been following it again I’ve had that comparison going on all the time. But now that I’ve been able to look at a few years’ worth of stuff, I see how Jim’s made it his own, and done really great things.
kreniigh– one of the old GA strips I looked at had Dick Tracy doing a guest spot here in recognition of his 75th anniversary. And yeah, Scancarelli’s Dick was way better and more entertaining than the strip itself is these days. I’d love to see him on Dick Tracy…but not if it meant Locher and Brozman got to take over GA, that would be horrible.
I wasn’t too excited when the first Byrd/Gertie arc started back in the Diner, but it’s won me over. On two levels I have been reminded not to judge by first impressions. Things are not always as they seem.
This story line is much better than anything I’ve read with Rufus, and it beats the living heck out of buying a giant meteor.

He’d better recognize her by looking into her eyes, or that whole “Angel Eyes” caper will be exposed for the cynical sham it probably was.
I can’t say I’ve liked either of these characters a lot till now, but I keep an open mind.
