wow. I just don’t have the time or inclination to list the many many ways in which this whole story just stinks. Fortunately they are all pretty self-evident.

Also, seems a bit odd that Jim Brozman has been signing this strip for five or six months now and the blurb and byline still only credit Locher. Mind you, I wouldn’t want my name associated with it…

Unbelievable! Tracy and Ennis are running away from the clown. They are unaware that there is a police reinforcement at the scene! So now we have three law enforcement officers at the circus where Louise was shot.. Meanwhile, where is Ringo? And where are the other performers?

Honestly, what can one say? Panel one. If anyone is good at sneaking it’s a 500 lb circus freak. Panel three. Don’t tell me the clown actually thinks the tiger ate both of them totally. Clothes and all. And left no trace behind. No blood, etc. Oh, come on.

With his face a deathly pallor Tracy choose the better part of valor With others trailing in his wake His escape he sought to make It seems now would be a good time To call headquarters and report this crime When the trapeze artist was shot Forgot his wrist genie he did not And called 911 as quickly as you please (We now see it was only just a tease) Meanwhile back at the cage The tiger had spent his rage Pops was looking perplexed Soon he was to be sorely vexed As the bodies were not there Not even a hunk of hair Scott Evil was more than correct Your foes you could not neglect To make sure first them you did slay Before you went about your merry way What new horrors are we to expect From this pile of excrement There would be no need to fear If only Underdog were here.

Wouldn’t the officer (who seems to be the only one with a brain in this whole arc) think to ask, “Why is it that you stood there with your gun guarding Ringo when you could’ve gone in and shot the tiger?”

Our hero, the great detective, DICK TRACY, is running away to hide, after several weeks of cowering in the cage, helpless, until the fat lady threw him a line. Why is he running away anyway when there’s a cop investigating the scene? Why is he in front when Della is leading the way? What is the point to all of this? What the __ is going on? (I didn’t say it, don’t censor me again!)

Cougar: from yesterday - “Hey Rube” is still used at the circus today. I had friends on the Ringling show red unit and it is an easy way to gather folks around in an emergency. Also, read Dr. E.Y. Henderson’s book “Circus Doctor” and you will see that the phrase has been in use at the circus for a long time. The carnivals you talked about yesterday may have appropriated the phrase from the circus or the other way around, but it is not exclusive to either.

That tiger sure calmed down fast. I thought the tiger would be a while before calming down especially after his pride the tail was clamped and kept him down from his meal by a big mean man. The shadows are good of the three running away. But wouldn’t someone hear since one is hugh noise of running feet? Me I am not smart, nor a lawyer, or a cop just a reader and I guess like others likes to once in a while comment.

Wait, so now the clown and the cop are in the tent with the tiger, and Tracy and the freaks are sneaking out of the tent to “get” the clown?

If you sped this strip up and put some Benny Hill music behind it, it might be pretty good.

So, the modern usage of “Hey Rube!” isn’t “Run away!” it’s “Come here!” Well, it’s not the first time a phrase has reversed its meaning….

They say anything is funny if you set it to Yakkity Sax (the Benny Hill theme). It would certainly help….

Kab2rb, actually for this strip nothing much changes, so I just have to think of a different way to say the same thing. Since this stories beginning I have saved bits and pieces of lines that didn’t make it into a post and try to cobble together with new lines a passable post. The song parodies are a little easier.

Now it’s Della Contessa telling Tracy what to do. The brain-damaged ex-detective has turned into a purely passive character. He listens to what other people say and he does what other people tell him to do, that’s all. The only decision he’s made in this adventure was when he decided to place Ringo under 24-hour guard, an hour or two ago, and that didn’t count because the real police ignored him.
