I think this is the first time I felt happy for the obnoxious Jeni. I like today’s strip.

I never liked the Jeri-Johnson romance for one specific reason, and that is that Johnson started out as a stalker. And he really was one, he never gave up, invaded Jeri’s privacy and he never took no for an answer. Remember when Jeri had to go incognito to her babysitter job? That is absolutely not OK, teenagers have the right to say no just like everybody else and others should respect that. I always got the sense that because Johnson is rather young too, that no one took it really seriously even though for Jeri he was often a true stress factor. That Johnson’s persistence paid off in the end really bothers me because it send the (frankly disturbing) message that one just has to stalk a potential partner long enough and they will eventually give in. I would have preferred a more healthy and sane approach to this with Jeri finding a boyfriend she chooses on her own, instead of being brainwashed by Johnson.

Come on,Creepy, admit it. You would have stalked them with or without this strip. (See you at the next meeting.)

That is not true, in so many cases comic strips aren’t just a bunch of comic characters doing things totally unrelated to the real world, they are social commentaries all wrapped up in an entertaining and easy to read package.I am not saying that anyone will start stalking someone because Johnson does, but Johnson’s actions convey that this kind of behavior is normal and acceptable, especially where flighty teenagers are involved because they never mean what they are saying anyway, especially not no right? In our society where stalking and date rape is frighteningly common I just think that artists who’s work is read by such a wide array of different people should show some social responsibility and not show this appalling behavior in such a positive and socially acceptable light. I am not saying that Johnson is dangerous or would have ever harmed Jeri but he made her clearly uncomfortable and a storyline of him recognizing his behavior as wrong and apologizing for it would have been nice.
