His name is Lars, and he says it's not very far away, only about 16.3 light-minutes... Joe: Oh... I suppose... Danae: Thanks! See ya!! Joe: ...Light-minutes...?

Nerds are MUCH better company than a bunch of uncultured jocks…

What’s going to happen when she meets Lars’s friend who’s like her? I sense explosions …
prasrinivara over 15 years ago
Only 293,400,000 km (182,310,000 mi).
(note, I rounded/truncated to nearest thousand)

Who sez they’re all nerds? Can’t judge a culture by one example.

So even Lars couldn’t disuade her from going. I smell trouble

All right. Now something is happening. Thanks Wiley. And deep down aren’t we all nerds?

Prasrinivara: only 293 400 000km ?? So what ? Who cares ?

I can sense that this will be an uplifting experience.

She actually asked permiswsion? I’m impressed, and surprised. (FUNNY strip)
KenyarJad over 15 years ago
Of course she asked permission. Would you leave the planet as a kid if your parents said no? Besides, Danae accepts authority - she just believes that if she can outsmart authority, it means that they acceded to her desires.

I don’t remember Lars inviting her yesterday.

That was often Calvin’s Dad’s problem also…

Yes, it’s a polish word used in MAD. I still think that Ordinary basil has visited this dino-world.
carmy over 15 years ago
brewwitch, I know she invited herself yesterday, but Lars didn’t seem to like that idea.
Wiley, Is Lars the one that flew out of the drainpipe some time ago?
jamadison4 over 15 years ago
, Lars has mind control over Jeffrey.
I wonder why the ALF has no effect over Danea ??????
NicodemusLegend over 15 years ago
Agree with Chikuku. The Sun itself is 8 light-minutes away. An object exactly opposite the Earth in the same orbit would be twice as far away as the sun, therefore, 16 light-minutes. Wiley’s got this one right.

ALF? That was a funny show.
ChukLitl Premium Member over 15 years ago
It may be 16.3 light minutes as the neutrino flies, but going through the Sun isn’t advisable. I’d multiply that by ½π.

dad has to pay more attention. when my daughter goes out, she has to fill out a five paragraph order….
carmy over 15 years ago
treered,* you got that right! I have 4 daughters and I need to know EVERYTHING (phone numbers a must) before they go out.
Trebor39 over 15 years ago
Yeah, my son when on one of those trips. They travelled faster than the speed of light, and he got back before he left.
bmonk over 15 years ago
@Trebor,
There once was a lady named Bright Who could travel faster than light. She went off one day, In a relative way, And returned on the preceding night.
And then:
There was a young fencer named Fisk, Whose movements were exceedingly brisk. So fast was his action, That Lorentz Contraction Diminished his sword to a disk.
D-i-c-e-R over 15 years ago
@Reynard61 The speed of dark is the same as the speed of light, just in the opposite direction.
@ChukLitl If you can figure out how to travel at the speed of light, I’m sure going thru the sun or anything else is not a problem. So, Wiley is correct.

Always confusing the elderly …..
daze62 over 15 years ago
Average distance Sun to Earth: 8.317 light minutes. Assume a close approach to Sun of 1 light minute (approx 12 million miles) and synchronous orbit of Mars 3.5. Travel distance = 16.75 light minutes. Wiley leaves them about 6 million miles short of their destination. Not that far in astronomical terms…..
madKanga over 15 years ago
Hey, its only 16+ light minutes away - might have to travel further to get there.
