The line for slavish devotion starts here. Lucy: So how's it going? Danae: A lot slower than I expected. My way is the perfect plan for world peace! People only need to not think and blindly follow whatever I tell them... I mean, is that so much to ask? Lucy: Well, I guess without a constant presence on cable news and radio.. Danae: Oh, duh! What was I thinking?!

Doesn’t this also explain religion?!? (and the Right (politically speaking?)
Fairportfan2: Beck, Hannity and O’Reilly too.
Edcole1961 about 15 years ago
It absolutely does. And until the day comes when courses in logic and critical thinking become mandatory high school rather than college elective, expect it to stay that way for a long time.
KingRat about 15 years ago
so the only way to world peace is if I don’t think or question?
Ironically following with out question has lead to the worst of human history from Mao, Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot to the Moors, Inquisition, and The Crusades.
The road to ruin is paved with good intentions.

It is funny, liberals and conservatives accuse each other of blindly following. And yet nothing changes…
cdward about 15 years ago
No, Dr. Jekyll, it’s not just liberals and conservatives who blindly follow. It’s everyone who doesn’t do exactly as I say!

Whoa, she came with that idea Monday, and now it has been given a regestred trademark!

You are all missing the point–what does her dad do for a living???? I bet he can hear the footsteps now…
Varnes about 15 years ago
Edcole, good point and very logical. The cons. would call it socialism. pouncingtiger, yes. Kingrat, that’s what the right wing said two years ago. Called you bad names if you did. But they still ate their Freedom Fries… yummmm.
ejcapulet about 15 years ago
That’s weird, “her way” sounds a lot like Communism.
S_T_F_U about 15 years ago
I guess you missed Letterman this week. It’s not only the right wingers who make constant appearances on the news, radio, and “talk” shows.
ronaldmundy about 15 years ago
Gee, is that the smell of burnt toast? You can all just follow me. I’ll lead you back to peace, freedom and the light……….yeah right! or left as the case may be. Believe what you wish and have a Bloody Mary.
UnhandledException about 15 years ago
I find for many people, thinking for one’s self amounts to seeking one’s own truth.
kpc about 15 years ago
That’s not Communism.. That’s Totalitarianism. Sometimes the terms are confused because the Russians (and a few other countries then and now) made it something it is not. The warped true Marxism into a nationalist/socialist nation. Just a little tidbit I thought I would share. Maybe if more people didn’t believe propaganda we’d know more about /real/ Communism. ;)

So much hate, so little time. Maybe a good dose the peaceful “flower power” of the 60’s, without the drugs, is what’s needed today.

The philosophy of communism is “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need”. Sounds like a great concept until you throw human beings into the mix. We as a species are incapable of long-term altruism. Of course there are individuals like Mother Theresa who spend their lives giving of themselves, but they are notable because they are the exceptions. There will always be someone like Stalin or Mao who manipulates what looks like an ideal society on paper into something that may have the same name, but is nothing like the concept.
By the way, even the pure concept is nonsense. Without competition, there is no creativity. One of the reasons this country has been so successful is because we have nurtured competition and creativity. The current administration is trying to stifle both and look what’s happening. Jobless rates are skyrocketing, businesses are closing and a great deal of the taxpayer base is now on the receiving end from the government. (I include myself in this - I haven’t had a job in more than a year.)

ProLibertate: Do you believe in Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter, O’Reilly, Hannity and Malkin?
firedome about 15 years ago
especially beck and limbaugh… o’reilly and hannity are just hucksters making a buck promoting themselves but the two really dangerous ones are beck and limbaugh.

”Line for Slavish Devotion”—LOL!—and the smaller the minds, the longer the lines.

kpc—– Well said.

Good grief people…you do know this is a comic, right? So much mindless devotion to political dogma in these comments.
NoBrandName about 15 years ago
“Without competition there is no creativity” - what a ridiculous statement.
I’m starting to believe the idea that Fox News is actually a comedy channel. Like Stephen Colbert, except that Colbert acknowledges that he is satire. There is so much disinformation coming from Fox that it would be more than a full-time job to debunk it all, even given how easy it is to debunk it.

It also explains Make a Difference Day and all the WH-driven propaganda we have seen in the comics pages and on prime-time TV this week.
Critical Thinking Time, people. Lemmings know how to walk to the left as well as to the right.

ProLib, (I assume you also mean women’s rights and issues), Obama hasn’t lied. You are lying about that! You stop lying! He hasn’t manipulated anyone. If anything, he has deferred to congress, (the lawmakers, remember he can’t make laws.), too much! Dang I wish more people had payed attention in civics class. He is not shutting down Faux News, so stop spreading paranoia. He doesn’t have the power, and you know it. You and your fellow travelers are the ones trying to be manipulators. Dude, why not just take President Obama at his word, and then judge him if he doesn’t keep it? You cons. are jumping the gun, making neo-cons look stupid and/or vindictive, and it’s turning people off. Democrats can run next year on the question, “Do you really want those kooks running things?”

So when does Frank Sinatra’s estate hit her up with a lawsuit?

Dracip said: “Democrats can run next year on the question, ‘Do you really want those kooks running things?’”
And I know plenty of people (some of whom I’d consider quite intelligent under other circumstances!) who’d vote/say “Yes!” without a moment’s hesitation. “Do it MY WAY®”, indeed…

AKHenderson the copyright on the song probably belongs to Paul Anka - considering that he’s the composer. (and Elvis had his own cover version of the tune. maybe his estate should also sue?)

The government governs best that governs least. BOTH sides want power. Last time I looked Will to Power is a bad thing for folks who want to be left alone. OBTW, quit trying to force me to share. MY stuff. Leave me alone.

I never heard a single one of those people Obama attacks. I don’t form my ideas based on what others say, I only base them on FACTS.
The FACT is that Obama:
didn’t hold a single campaign promise lied about his true motivations, especially about being “racially neutral” during his campaign (he hates white people, read his “Dreams…”) doesn’t respect the US constitution attempts the worst power grab of any president, ever set up puppet “czars” with totally illegitimate powers accepts a Nobel peace price that is absurdly bestowed on him tries to silence the opposition in the most fascist way bows to the king of Saudi Arabia, an evil dictator said explicitly that if it came to an open confrontation, he would side with the Muslims has an abysmal voting record as senator; e.g. he supported legal restrictions on encryption is anti-gun like hell and guns are the only thing that stands between freedom and tyranny he wants to impose a socialist health care system that will ruin the US economyi’m not a “Neo-Con”, I’m LIBERTARIAN. I consider the Republicans as just as evil as the Democrats, although even the Democrats probably didn’t realize what a cuckoo’s egg they hatched with Obama.
The retarded left-right thinking that is so evident even on this forum here is typical of the kind of brainwashing people suffered.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb asks exactly the right question in “The Black Swan”: there’s no way anyone could possibly find any connection between abortion and tax levels, yet Democrats are adamantly for high taxes and abortion rights, while Republicans are against abortion and for low taxes (the people, not the politicians).
That’s the result of pigeon holing. People follow a party line without thinking.
And that’s what we see here: people listening to speeches (!) to decide if a guy is “good”.
Obama talks the talk, but he definitely doesn’t walk the walk.
He received his luxury home in Chicago from a known and now convicted mafia boss.
Most of his campaign contributions came from Wall Street and he immediately paid them back with his “bailout”, which was especially generous for those most supportive of his political camp. He appointed people to power positions who were Wall Street insiders.
As for his Olympic propaganda, which cost the US tax payers MILLIONS just in traveling costs, it would have helped more of his political allies. Axelrod, his campaign manager, stood to earn tens of millions if Chicago had won the nomination.
That’s the real Obama.
And now he tries to attack the one popular US news station that can be dangerous to him…

Will someone let the air out of these windbags–lighten-up!
ProLibertate about 15 years ago
I’ll lighten up when Obama is out of the office and someone like Ron Paul took over to correct the mistakes of the last 20 years - just to keep the goal small and reasonable.
