Danae, you may be able to reach a wider base of people to resent, but you will only be able to resent each of them for a fraction of the amount of time. Trust me, it is more satisfying to resent them in person.

    Sociopath networking?

If so, I approve. Or not. Like I care what you all think.

I often find myself a bit worried after i read this strip - because Danae often makes more than a little sense…

I agree, especially with her last comment in today’s strip… Depending on my mood, it’s scarily accurate… lol

“Table lamp on loan from Lio.”

Actually, the other way around. Danae has had this table lamp years before Lio arrived on the comics page.

This strip illustrates why I don’t use facebook. It’s time consuming and if I don’t hear about what you’re doing in person, I don’t know you well enough to care.

    Hello, Wiley.

Rod Serling once said that the proper time for his kind of story was 40 minutes, but unfortunately 40 minutes didn’t fit either the 30 minute or the 60 minute network formats.

So … what do you think is the proper space and configuration needed to present a daily comic strip? What we are seeing, or something different?

@glennday: “unfortunately 40 minutes didn’t fit either the 30 minute or the 60 minute network formats.”

Take a stopwatch to a 60-minute network TV show. Be sure you turn it off during the commercials. You’re typically left with about 42 minutes. Fits really well.

Linus from Peanuts expressed something similar: “I love mankind – it’s people I can’t stand.”

I took it for granted Mr. Serling was referring to the time including the commercial and other breaks. There really was no need to say anything if his idea of a proper story time already fit what the networks were offering.

I agree with Ira. I much prefer resenting people in person. No facebook, texting or twitter required.

I’ve still managed to avoid Facebook and Twitter - I have a webpage, but that was only to put several thousand pictures of my kids on the internet (well, maybe not quite thousands…)

Danae is the incarnation of Wednesday Adams, right?

Interesting trivia: look at the wiki of the actress that potrayed her in the series.

If twittering, texting and Facebooking keeps Danae distracted from her megalomaniacal schemes, that’s a good thing.

Unless she brings those schemes online…

Keep in mind, that the commercials on television (which have the highest production values and absorb most of the funds to make) are the product, and the shows that separate the commercials are the filler. This might tell you something about commercial media; or not.

There used to be (may still, for all I know) awards for the best commercials. Some of Stan Freberg’s for Volkswagen were stunning in their creativity and wit.

pbarnrob, Stan didn’t write those commercials, but he undoubtedly inspired them. Stan broke the ad biz rules, and accomplished what the “professionals” said couldn’t be done. He told the truth with a humorous twist, while talking to* consumers, rather than *at us.

It’s when she stops making sense to you that you should start worrying about yourself. Because then you’ve become one of … Them … The Normal People.

    Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.

”I agree, especially with her last comment in today’s strip… Depending on my mood, it’s scarily accurate.” – Mitstan

Too bad Lucy adlready did the sidewalk psychiatry stand bit. Danae could’ve been the non-cannibalistic Dr. Lecter of sidewalk shrinks.

    The mind it boggles.

”Danae resents people? I thought she just disliked them.” – Dracip

”Linus from Peanuts expressed something similar: ‘I love mankind – it’s people I can’t stand.’ ” – brewwitch

“Hell is other people.” – Jean-Paul Sartre

This is an aptly ironic quote in this context, because (IMHO) the way he meant it that applies here is that even the most egotistical person has a masochistic need for others’ existence in order to validate their own.

Otherwise they’d be like the sole occupant of Pointland if he’d actually been aware that there was a bigger universe out there. Solipsistic hell.

Maybe that’s why Danae is so unfailingly cranky, and is reaching out and touching all those unpleasantly … existing people on facialtwitch.com. Revenge for being necessary for her.

    Her own attitude of ingratitude.

Still getting five cents per session, Luce? Cheap at half the price.
