Jon Sequitur - I think Wiley writes a week’s worth of strips well in advance. I really don’t think he got that joke about the geek inheriting the earth from someone’s post on the Non Sequitur page.

I share Jeffry’s addiction. Twenty panels isn’t so long to set up a pun. I pretty much quit telling the one about the boy-foot bear with teaks of Chan and the one about the four-loaf cleaver and all the others because I took the reactions too personally. But seeing this strip and its reactions gives me the courage to attack our one-liner culture again. Of course I don’t get invited to parties, so I’m not sure when I’ll do it.

I’m venturing a guess that Danae will come to the geeks rescue and become Empress Danae. Everyone can now rise.

My brother and my cousin are great punsters. It was like growing up in a pun competition. They were constantly trying to out-pun one another. (Still are) The rest of us learned how to react to that kind of humor - DON’T. Otherwise it just encourages them.

I saw the geek inheriting the earth pun coming and was enjoying the setup. I usually pun instinctively, and enjoy when others beat me to them, thus I love reading the comments as much as the comics most days. We punny people are, indeed, encouraged by groans, and know some think themselves too good for them, so we try to sneak them in under the radar. That makes the victory complete!

If geeks are addicted to puns, then that must mean the patron saint of geeks is Piers Anthony and his Xanth books are their gospels>

Right up there in punistry with Piers Anthony is Robert Asprin and his MythAdventure series… And we must not forget Spider Robinson and the Callahan’s Place stories.
