It’s Elly…Lynn is the cartoonist, Elly is the character. And like I, and others said yesterday…the occasional night of dressing up and looking good without her husband is not cause to think she’s going to cheat. Should married women attempt to look as awful as possible when they go out on the town so they won’t stray? Perhaps we’re all so weak-willed that the moment another man takes a look at us, we fall into their arms, marriage vows or none?
A woman always wants to look good when she goes out. Just like I, as a man do. If I get a look from an attractive woman, my ego gets a boost and my night is made better, but I would never risk my relationship by going any farther than showing I tidy up well. My wife is stunning. When she goes out with me, I see men’s heads turn. It make me feel lucky to have her and it reminds me how special she is.
Oh, brother, what do you expect her to wear? Sack cloth and ashes? How about a used garbage bag? It’s really good to feel pretty when you spend the rest of your time feeling like you’re just the sevant (aka “mom”). What so many men don’t understand is even single women don’t dress up for men - they dress up for themselves because it just feels nice to look good. Being married doesn’t mean you stop being a person. Is cleokaya the only guy who has gotten this one right?
That’s right, Ellie. You can & will resist as you look & feel your best. We have faith.
One of the things I learned at a young age from my father was not only to appreciate how a woman looks when I see her, but to be sure to tell her how lovely she is, how the color of her dress/blouse sets off her eyes, hair, etc., and to be sure to respect her for who she is. Most of the men I spend any amount of time with feel the same way.
Men need to enjoy their surroundings & remember to compliment the women in their lives!
I think Connie and Ted need to be introduced to each other! Save both John & Ellie a lot of wet shoulders :)
Ellie will do fine, and she might just see how shallow Connie really is right now.
Have you noticed? All the women that criticized the husband for merely putting himself in harm’s way, are now rationalizing it’s okay for the wife to do basically the same thing.
I think once you’re married you shouldn’t need the “ego strokes” of other men or women noticing how attractive you are. It should be enough that your spouse loves you and finds you attractive. That doesn’t mean she shouldn’t dress nicely to go out but she shouldn’t care of other men notice her or not as long as John does. The same goes for him.
Cleo and Ejcapulet have it right. It feels good to be able to put on a nice outfit and some makeup and get some male attention… even if you’re still pushing a stroller. We don’t want the guys. We just want to know we still got it!
We can’t rely on OUR men to tell us so, you know. Either you forget to remind us when we’re feeling frumpy, or we think you’re biased >:-)
there are probably a lot of men reading the strip who “get it” (as per ejcapulet), but not all of them comment on it. kind of like they don’t always tell the women in their lives how special/beautiful/wonderful they are.

what you said is so true, i told my wife what i felt every day , and even more often the last 4 months of her life. and i still do since she’s been gone [9 years last month]
people need to let their significant other know how they feel, as none of us know how much time we have here in this life
ejcapulet
I doubt Cleo is the only one who understands. I know I do and I am a single person still looking. Nonetheless, if Elly were going to stray, she’d have done it long ago.
For the guys who’ve understood how important it is to remind the woman in your life that she’s beautiful, thank you; we absolutely need to hear it now and then!
I hope she has fun. Of course she needs to look her best. It’s a matter of pride, feeling good about one’s self…. Why does this concept seem so hard for some to comprehend?

This is Elly. If she feels any temptation at all, it will be momentary and will make her realize how much she loves her family.

John had his “Single night” not so long ago. He remained standing, not falling for any temptation. I am sure Elly will do the same.

Well they are just going to dinner, they aren’t hanging out at some singles bar! Me and my friends get together on each others birthdays and do it up!

It is good to hear her having a conversation with her mother. It seems that Mom died so long ago when following the original the first time around.
