I know that feeling/look. BTDT I’m dreading my youngest leaving or even talking about moving. I know it’s inevitable, and i’d never stand in her way but it still gives me a strange empty feeling.

When I was 8 or 9 years old, I looked right and left quickly and then ran across the street. All of sudden, I was hit by the car and rolled over on the street. My mum shrieked very loudly. Everyone ran and looked at me while I was soooooo dizzy and crying hysterically. Oh sheeshhh! I never, ever forgot that happen. My mum kept telling me to watch right and left before walk across the street allllll the time. Finally, I was 15 years old; I told my mum stop telling me to watch both ways before I walk across the street. She said OK! I knew what I was doing by myself. sighhh! Nowadays, these people (any ages) got hit by vehicles while they walked across the street and killed instantly. That was really tragedy! I was very lucky that I was not killed after I got hit by the car. Whew!

    awww … poor Elly.

Mustang - a LOT of ppl in Toronto get hit because they are wearing headphones from an MP3 Player, or talking on the phone, or text messaging. I always look up ever 3 or 4 steps, and I NEVER start crossing when the counter says 10 seconds or less ..

Mornin’ everyone. (including the “Crew” from OB)

Whoa! True, Gweedo’s comment was rather cold but Macushlalondra’s was even colder! Maybe it was a typo?

Macushlalondra, Your cat is beautiful! I used to have a medium length white cat very similar to yours. He is now living with a new family because my husband was allergic to him.

On the cartoon: My kids left years ago, finished college and got married, but Terrylonewolf is right, they do come back. WITH OTHERS. All of mine are self supporting, but when they come home, there are 15 of us. ! O, I do love my Grandkids! They’re the greatest thing since chocolate.

“Watch for cars, look both ways!”

Please be more specific than this when teaching kids to cross. I have seen many a little kid go to the curb, kind of shake their head back and forth, and cross.

They just do the motions! They don’t even see the cars! It’s like they do what they are told and turn their head back and forth and that is enough to protect them.

And how many times have you seen a kid at the crosswalk, dashing into it to beat the car that’s coming? Or totally ignore the car coming in the opposite direction that’s not on their side? Or have the one car pass and step into the road when another car comes just behind it? It’s like… well, I turned my head both ways, one car went by, so I did my part!

Can you tell that I have been dodging, crossing kids, all summer long?

Burgundy2 said “Death wishes aren’t your usual style.” That was not my type. I more likely think that God would not let me die after I got hit by the car. I should thank Guardian Angel for saving me from that happen.

I didn’t read that as being negative OR worried - I thought she’s just realizing that her kids are growing up and becoming less dependent on her supervision.

Drivers cannot see short children. If Liz decided to break away from Michael, and a car came by, then Elly would be the helpless witness to a horrible accident. (My father-in-law was the unfortunate driver when this happened years ago - the girl darted out from in front of a car.)

My kids all leave home in the next two weeks for college. I’m glad that they’re headed off to school, instead of the alternatives (staying home, getting married, being dead from parental neglect, etc.)

What happened? I had a comment deleted and don’t know why. I only remember saying something about having a friend who was a year younger being able to cross the street before I was allowed to and that I was glad Wildmustang wasn’t hurt in his experience. I wonder why that was deleted? It wasn’t even political.

ah, @macush, that explains it. Some people were remarking on your comment, and I couldn’t find it. So now I see why - it wasn’t there!
