It’s a good thing that Jon can’t read your mind, Garfield.

I like Garfield’s nonchalant/apathetic looks in the first 2 panels.

This reminds me of my big, orange cat. When he gets into trouble, I know he’s thinking something I wouldn’t like but I can’t tell what it is.

Imagining his voice when reading it, made me lol XD

I think if Jon really could hear Garfield, the comic strip would have been discontinued long ago… lol

Does Jon know how to read Garfield’s mind like ESP, doesn’t he? I don’t think so! On the third panel, Garfield looks so priceless!

Who should play Mrs. Feeny in the next Garfield movie? Since Bill Murray is doing G’s voice, maybe his old SNL alum Jane Curtin?

I wonder if the old couple next door, Hubert and Reba, are still around? (And I actually did think Jon and Garfield understood each other, sort of like Red and Rover.)

Meeko looks at me like that when he’s up to something.

I always thought Jon understood Garfield, like Nate and the boys in Overboard can tell what Louie is ‘saying’.

Jon reads Garfield’s body language. In cases like this, where Garfield stays pretty expressionless, it’s hard for Jon to get a read on what Garfield is thinking.

Or maybe I’m just overthinking it?

Actually, I was thinking it’s strange how Jon seemed so upset in the first panel, but then it’s like his battery just died and he came to a halt for the rest of the strip…

One of the best meta-references ever. I noticed that sometimes Jon can in fact understand Garfield if the gag calls for it!

Garfield can make Jon understand him when he WANTS to, or be totally inscrutable when he doesn’t – just like a real cat!

WHAT??? You mean, Jim, for the last umpteen years Jon cannot really hear what Garfield is saying??? This really changes a lot! Now I have to go back and re-read all of my old Garfield books…..

If there’s a way to contact Davis on http://www.garfield.com, BinaryWiener, why not ask him? Also ask him about bringing back Odie’s original owner Lyman! Also, we need a little more Nermal and Arlene now and then.

I did write to Jim once to ask him to bring back Arlene and Nermal, at that time we hadn’t seen them in ages. He has since brought them back but only very rarely. I’d love to see more of them.

Oh, come on, folks. The best thing about being telepathic is that you don’t have to be telepathic all the time. :)

Sometimes Jon can read Garfield’s thoughts and sometimes he can’t. That seems to be a reasonable conclusion from Garfield’s long-standing track record. Steve has it spot-on.
