" 1. Any impact or explosion violent enough to knock loose debris from Mars and give them enough velocity to exit the planet’s gravity well and to make it to Earth, even with Mars’ .38 gravity, would be enough to melt the rock, destroying any life, even if some had been in it to start with."

Actually, this is not true. Yes, the closest rock would be vaporized and the vapor accelerate the rock to escape velocity, but it would not vaporize all rock involved just as an H-bomb would vaporize much rock but still accelerate some unvaporized rock even into space.

Secondly, the general claim is that prior to the formation of the rock, the bacteria left recognizable waste products, not that they were still alive.

“2. Passage through space through vacuum would be very inhospitable to any organism, had it miraculously survived the minimum of 2000 degrees or so and thus started tunneling in the rock.”

The black body temperature in Earth orbit is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, Mars orbit is colder, NOT 2,000 degrees.

Also, the claim is not that bacteria tunneled in space but that the tracks were made prior to rock formation.

“3. Organisms require something to live on and to respirate from. Vacuum does not provide any gases. Where is the “food” in a rock that has melted and recrystallized?”

Also based on the idea that this happened after being knocked off of Mars. Nobody makes this claim.

That said and not that it matters, there are creatures on earth which can survive vacuum, hard radiation and deep freezing temperatures and restore life activities when placed in water.

“4. Assuming it actually came from Mars, the rock took years to get from Mars to Earth in vacuum, radiation, solar wind and would have been down to ambiant(sic)/blackbody temperature very quickly. None of that is very conducive to life.”

Not active life, no. Again something never claimed.

“5. We don’t actually know it came from Mars.”

True. Aliens may have forged the rocks to fool us humans and placed them gently on the Antarctic icecap for explorers to find and analyze. If so, they did a good job of matching isotope ratios out to seven significant figures the same as analysis of rocks in place. However, it makes no sense to make such an elaborate hoax.
