Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling The Education of Louis Boy: Wow, does Louis have big ears, or what? They're ginormous! How can he stand it? Boy: Louis seems like a loser. He probably spent last night watching "TV's Greatest Pranks" with his parents. Boy #1: Haw! Look at Louis! Boy #2: Check out Louis Maltby! Man, I'm glad I'm not him! Boy: Louis is just standing there, saying nothing. I'll bet he's never even TOUCHED a girl! Woman: Oh, here's that kid with the big nose and strangely narrow shoulders. And what's up with him and the tater tots? Girl: I wonder if Louis eats tater tots his legs are Blake: I know what you're thinking, Louis. Louis: Huh? Blake: You're wondering why I'm wearing this nerdy shirt. It's because I'm going to my dad's office after school. Louis: Whatever, Blake, that's cool. It's not as though I sit around all day thinking about you. Blake: Okay, okay. Blake: Louis wears pretty dorky clothes all the time, and he has no excuse. And didn't he wear that shirt on Monday?

Bolling pretty much nailed what it feels like to be socially anxious, including the double standard and the fact that even if the double standard is acknowledged or “understood,” it sure as hell is not internalized.

Wait a minute… wasn’t this supposed to be “The Education of Louis”?!?!?! He ends up just as clueless as at the start. Eventually he meets some girl just as shy and insecure as he and random conversation (since niether one has a clue about flirting) leads to a deep and passionate relationship that is a total secret since everyone ignores them both. At that point the boy becomes a man.

Tut, tut. A boy becomes a man after watching the films of Steven Seagal.
Or … Whoopi Goldberg.
