Goat: Hey, Pig. Where you been?
Pig: Getting my tombstone made... I always like to plan ahead... I told the guy to give me a real nice epithet.
Goat: 'Epitaph'...'Epithet' is an insult.
Pig: Nuts.
Gosh, Pig! You should have specified what you wanted on your marker, not just said “gimme an epithet!” That would be the usual way of doing business. Oh, well; you won’t be reading it when Your Time comes….
Am I the only one who feels sorry for poor little pig. It ain’t easy being pudgy and stupid, and he has such a good heart. Love that little guy. Oh wait, he’s a comic. Nevermind.
To Number6 & Jakebb2: back when Pibgorn was taking comments, they had a character named Spitcock. The other site’s censor server would have melted down under weight of those comments.
Epithet has more than one meaning, and if he literally said a “nice” one, that would require whoever wrote on the gravestone to go with the meaning “a characterizing word used in place of a name”. The other meaning is incompatible with the word “nice”.Hence, they did not follow directions.

Dogsniff – well, it’s a pretty grave mistake.

Pig didn’t dig it.

On the other hand, when it comes to this sort of undertaking, Pig isn’t all that deep. He’s sweet, but pretty shallow.

Don’t sweat it, Pig. I think you are a real nice epithet! ※※ Today’s forecast – rolling sunshine !! Yay ☼ !!

Aw Arianne…… hey I liked your late one on yesterday’s Off the Mark.

I originally didn’t want any marker on my dirt condo. But now I’m thinking @#%&*! – would be perfect.

Maybe Rat could go into the tombstone business. My tombstone – “Warning!!! Don’t eat the mystery meat!”
rshive over 13 years ago
But it is a nice epithet though.

Ephithet is just a descriptive term… e.g., “Alexander the Great” or “Ivan the Terrible”.

“Nuts?” That’s all Pig could say?I’d be more like; “Oh thit!”

When the time comes, will the Undertaker dig Pig’s grave with a piledriver?

Pig reminds me of me!
Digital Frog over 13 years ago
I’d return it – the tombstone was too short of a read and lacked a decent plot.
hariseldon59 over 13 years ago
Reminds me of an old television commercial. What do you want on your Tombstone? Sausage and pepperoni.
Dirty Dragon over 13 years ago
As General Patton said, a man that eloquent must be saved. Even if he’s a pig.

Sherlock Watson over 13 years ago
This little piggy is having an epithetical epitaph epiphany. (Try saying that while eating crackers.)

The engraver got it wrong; Pig is a #$&%$&# simpleton.

Fine, but an epithet is NOT an insult.

Jake!! Good to see you too. And Cyndi — but comics need love too. I like your bear, BTW.

It’s a pathetic epithet. Translated to the numbers, it might be Pastis’ phone number 3475473. Awww, probably not.
doc white over 13 years ago
do they put epithets on cans of ashes? someone tell me in a later life.

Wow, the puns coming from the comments section are even better than today’s strip. “…this sort of undertaking.” Awesome!
