Then Margueritem beat them both. :)

Almost thou persuadest me, Toada, that thou couldst handle a daily one-panel strip (like “Life with Garfield”, but starring thyself).

so, key to success is: be the steppER, not the stepEE. Step on others before they step on you? Is that toada’s drift? Not very wise if you ask me.

Moral of the story - make sure you’ve got the entire picture before you do anything, or else there might be something HUGE that you failed to notice that could ruin everything.

Nick- quite in line with Toada’s cynical nature, the moral of the story is futility of work and equifinality… (Whoever passed by and stepped on them both was not there in the picture before, it was a new and unforeseen force.) Reminds of despair.com motivational posters.

    Love this story line!

Or as one of Despair.com’s Demotivators says about Ambition: “The journey of a thousand miles sometimes ends very, very badly.”

    A musical moment:

We love you Toada, oh yes we do, You have great wisdom and your words are true; With optimistic minds you screw, Oh Toada, we love you.

Drawing a lesson from selected individuals may miss the truth of the generalized rule.

But really, who wants to live an ant’s life even under the best of circumstances?
