The magic of the imagination. I am so happy that there are still some children who haven’t been conditioned to only play video games and abandon their imaginations.
The “M” on the car may very well stand for ‘murciélago’, which as I understand it is Spanish for ‘bat’…. I love it when a comic strip can make me laugh and think at the same time!
Shouldn’t this strip have run in the fall? And lairs are dark; how is it the grass is so green? (I suppose it could be artificial turf, but…) Nevertheless, Gracie, I be-leaf in you…
Hardly! The teachers love kids like Gracie. The ones with imagination are awesome and make their work much better. Don’t go blaming the schools for the work the parents don’t do – they’re the ones who can’t handle their own kids & try to get doctors to drug them.
Imagination isn’t why kids get labeled ADHD. In the misdiagnoses, it’s because they’re bored. In the accurate diagnoses, it’s because they have real symptoms (and yes, ADHD is quite real… I’m 43 and I have it).
You guys are overthinking this. It’s not a cave she’s imagining. It’s the inside of the pile of leaves. That’s why there are leaves on the walls and grass on the floor. And that’s not an M on the car. It’s a stylized bird in flight, like Batman’s emblem.

What with the M on the car? Her last name is Bermudez.

That must have been the last thing she expected b/4 she dived into the pile of leaves. Children and their imaginations – such a precious thing.

phuh knees, they’re probably fake leaves, left in that pile all year ’round specifically to camouflage the entrance to the lair.
