I lived there. Was crammed full of cranky old people who refused to let anything decent in terms of business move into town. and interesting fact. It was incorporated as " The town of Paradise" so now that its city size it should be called the city of the town of paradise.

I was just there a few weeks ago! Only for a few days, and I was staying in a smaller town literally up the road, not long or close enough to get to know much about living there, but it’s pretty. There’s actually a story that Paradise was named after an old saloon called the Pair-O-Dice, but that legend has been pretty well debunked. It has about 25,000 people. That’s a city in some states but California law says “town” and “city” mean the same thing.Anyhow, I can’t say I’ve been to Hell but I’ve gone grocery shopping in Paradise.

The Bible clearly outlines the steps that God’s Kingdom will take to restore Paradise to earth: God looks at the way the nations have fouled the air, water, and land by their selfish exploitation of earth’s resources and their bloody and destructive warfare, there is ample reason for him to feel wrathful and to take action to put a stop to their mindless course. That is why he will “bring to ruin those ruining the earth” before it is too late. This will then allow the natural healing power of the earth to reverse the damage done and to bring the earth back to a paradisaic state. The Kingdom will also deal with the crime and criminals that rob one of security and happiness so essential to Paradise.

Thanks to all who wished me luck Monday here on Pickles. The surgery results were not what I had hoped, but I’m a tough old broad and will take the steps to conquer the “Big C.”

@Mythreesons — sorry, for some odd reason I missed the comments that day, but I’d like to join now in wishing you all the best. I know it’s “only” a comics website but I really feel that we have some community going on here — and we’re rooting for you.

And 2cats — I’d never read that strip at all! Love that sign. Thank you! I just added the strip to my page to try it out. Now I’ve stepped over the line from too many to WAAAY too many. Maybe that’s how I sometimes miss some comments.

I have been to Hell (MI) - went to college not far from there, and I have been to Paradise (CA) . . . both are delightful for a visit (and some of the sourveniers are quite fun).

Mythreesons, I’m so sorry you didn’t get the diagnosis we hoped for. I imagine you’re still in shock and a bit frightened. Thankfully, medicine has come so far in cancer treatment. My Mom had small cell lung cancer (8% survival rate) but she was cured. I hope you have family and friends to help you navigate these frightening waters. Praying for you.

@Mythreesons ….last year I was diagnosed with a cancerous sarcoma on my right hand. Had to have a good portion of my hand amputated. So far am doing fine…so hang in there and remember if God brings you to it he gets you through it…will keep you in my prayers…keep smiling!

I don’t even GET this strip today. It’s WEIRD and I mean really odd. WHY Paradise? Is it b/c there’s so many oldsters living there and subsequently DYING there? But why comment on it unless he had someone die there, recently and wants to make light of it…Sure, I lived there in Jr high school in the early 70’s and we HATED it (“we” meaning us Jr Hi girls). I mean, it was all the “old ppl” and it was really really RUN w/them. But now, it’s different. When I go to visit, I really love it. There is a total peacefulness about the place (oh—peace in death?) and still I hear Hi School and younger kids saying how BORING it is. Still. But why the Paradise= death commentary? A childhood friend is moving back this month to work. How things change—our attitudes and such. There are a LOT of artists living there now and moving away from such areas as Santa Cruz (where I am) to just live there. Hmmm. I just wonder. I know it’s HELL for the younger ppl but…well, I guess I really AM “older” now. Sigh.

About environment in the Bible; after God created everything and Adam named everything God did give us authority over His creation on earth. We are in stewardship and doing a piss poor job.

@littlewhootsie The comic strip isn’t about Paradise being a death community it’s because the word “Paradise” is another name for heaven. People say when you die you go to Paradise, but since the kid was asking what that is, the grandpa gave a logical answer. The fact it’s a retirement community is just a little added irony.
